On the afternoon of September 29, Associate Professor Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, informed Dan Tri reporter that doctors who are rotating to work in the Con Dao special zone have just successfully performed surgery on a critically ill patient.

Previously, in the early morning of September 28, a man named PMQ (67 years old) was transferred to the Con Dao Military Medical Center for emergency treatment in a state of severe abdominal pain, spreading throughout the abdomen after two days of black stools.

The patient was indicated for imaging tests, which showed little fluid around the liver and hypogastric region with bilateral pneumonia, free air in the abdomen, and increased white blood cell count.

Synthesizing clinical and paraclinical symptoms, doctors thought of a generalized peritonitis suspected to be caused by a perforated gastric prepyloric ulcer, severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Notably, the man had underlying hypertension, ischemic heart disease, pneumonia, and acute kidney injury.

Immediately, the patient was resuscitated with fluids, packed red blood cells, and antibiotics.

Faced with the need for emergency surgery on a patient with underlying hypertension and gastric ulcer, Dr. Ly Bao Duy (on rotation in Con Dao) immediately connected to a consultation and received remote consultation with Associate Professor Tran Vinh Hung, Director of Binh Dan Hospital.

After the consultation, Associate Professor Tran Vinh Hung agreed with the diagnosis and agreed to perform emergency surgery on the patient right in Con Dao.

One day after surgery, the patient was alert and had no fever. The patient is now out of danger, in stable condition, and continues to receive treatment and care according to the protocol.

"The doctors who are rotating to work in Con Dao have brought the spirit of doing everything for the patients and strictly followed the handling process when encountering critical cases, which is to immediately connect to online consultation with the hospital's leaders and experts, to have the best intervention direction for the patients.

"Certainly, the spirit and working efficiency of the first rotation of doctors will continue to be maintained and promoted for the next rotation groups," the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health shared.

Previously, in early September, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health deployed the first rotation of leading medical specialists to work in Con Dao special zone, aiming to improve the quality of medical services for residents and tourists here. Each rotation will last one month.

Specifically, the team of doctors participating in the first phase are all excellent experts from the top prestigious hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, such as: Binh Dan Hospital, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, Hung Vuong Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital and Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital.

The program is implemented with the view of "leaving no one behind, even in the farthest places", demonstrating the strong commitment of the Ho Chi Minh City health sector after the merger.

In addition to sending doctors on rotation, many other medical support activities will also be deployed at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.

Hung Vuong Hospital will set up a mobile blood bank to ensure blood supply for emergency, obstetric and surgical interventions. Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital will be responsible for setting up a hemodialysis system, while Binh Dan Hospital will support the establishment of standard operating procedures for operating rooms.

All these activities will be coordinated under the direction and support of hospital leaders.
