Hanoi: Famous online businessmen pay 40 billion VND in taxes

Through propaganda and guidance, many business households and individuals who are famous and influential have proactively declared taxes and paid to the state budget over 40 billion VND.

Recently, the Hanoi Tax Department has stepped up propaganda and guidance for taxpayers to implement policies, especially for households and individuals doing online business. Thanks to that, budget revenue from households and individuals doing online business has been improved.

Business households and individuals paid via the e-commerce portal (portal 888) 1,020 billion VND, accounting for 55% of the amount paid by online business households and individuals nationwide.

Many famous people and influencers selling online, after being informed and guided by tax officials, proactively declared, corrected and paid to the state budget more than 40 billion VND.

People have gradually become aware of their responsibilities, obligations, and legal consequences of intentionally evading taxes.

For cases that have been instructed but still deliberately violate, Hanoi City Tax will transfer the file to the police agency for handling according to the provisions of law.

A typical example is the case of Do Manh Cuong registering and using multiple accounts on e-commerce platforms (Shopee, Tiki, Lazada...) to sell phones, accessories...; generating exceptionally large revenue (hundreds of billions of VND) but not declaring and paying taxes according to regulations, evading a large amount of tax (2.5 billion VND).

In June and July, Hanoi City Tax Department coordinated with Hanoi City Police to detect and handle 3 individuals with tax evasion. Among them, TikToker Vu Nam Phuong (Vu Hong Phuc - Cun Bong) and US Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, had large revenue both online and in stores, but deliberately did not issue invoices, did not declare taxes fully, causing a loss to the budget of more than 10 billion VND.

MI Hanoi Company Limited, with Doan Manh Hoa as sales director on e-commerce platforms, did not declare nearly 33 billion VND, concealed it through personal accounts, the case is being further investigated by the police.

Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (Hycloset) sells clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories of famous brands through the social network Facebook, generating exceptionally large revenue (nearly 1,000 billion VND from 2020 to present), but does not declare or pay taxes as prescribed.

The livestream selling location is in an apartment building so it is very difficult to detect, the concealment method is sophisticated. The case is being further investigated by the police.

These are wake-up calls for the e-commerce business community, including celebrities, people who have great influence on the public and have a significant impact on consumer behavior.
