Completing the key stage, EAEU and Iran are optimistic about FTA before the end of 2023

The free trade agreement (FTA) between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran is expected to be signed before the end of this year, the Belarusian government press office said on October 20.

"The work on drafting a free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran has been completed. The document is expected to be signed this year," a statement after the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council said.

It is known that the meeting's agenda includes 33 issues, including international cooperation, technical regulations and tariffs.

The EAEU is also pushing for FTAs with several other countries, with negotiations underway, such as Egypt, India, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a statement last June, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk assessed the EAEU FTA negotiations with countries: "Negotiators need to take into account various interests. In our case, the interests of all five EAEU member states, businesses and consumers of these countries are involved. All this should be taken into account by negotiators. This is a complex process."

The EAEU's member states are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
