On September 10, the leaders of Victory Primary, Secondary and High School (Buon Ma Thuot Ward, Dak Lak ) confirmed that the school expelled student D.TL, a 9A8 student, for not coming to school on the opening day.
Coming home late from abroad, with permission, school still expelled?
Previously, Ms. NTT (35 years old, residing in Hanoi, mother of L.) sent a complaint to the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training and many related agencies. According to her, her son was "expelled from school" for the past 10 days without any official document.
Ms. T. said that due to difficult circumstances, she went to work in Korea. During the summer, she took her child to visit her mother. On August 15, Victory School opened but L. had not returned yet. She texted the homeroom teacher to ask for permission and asked her younger sister to write a request and send it to the school security gate.
On August 25, L. returned to class as usual, but the next day the supervisor invited him to his room and asked him to go home. On September 3, during a meeting with the school, a representative of Victory School said that L.'s "absence from school was a recurring problem" and suggested that the parents find another school.
"Since August 26, my child has not been able to go to class. There has been no decision to suspend him. This has seriously affected his right to study and his psychology," said Ms. T.
According to her, L. has been a good student for many years and this year was selected for the high-quality class.
"It's unreasonable to expel my child just because he took a few days off on leave. It was beyond my control that my child couldn't return to school on time. I texted the teacher and asked my family to write a request, but the school found fault with the lack of the parent's signature and then suddenly let my child leave," Ms. T. shared.
The school speaks out

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Minh Phat - Principal of Victory School - confirmed that L. was suspended from school from August 26.
According to Mr. Phat, the school reopening plan was announced on August 15, but L. was not present. On August 18, the school received an "invalid" leave application because it was signed by a relative, requesting only one day off. Upon checking before, the school said that this student had previously been absent from school without permission or had submitted an application that did not comply with regulations.
"L.'s absence from school shows disrespect for school rules, affects school discipline and causes difficulties for management. We have reminded him many times but have not received full cooperation from his parents," said Mr. Phat.
The principal said that on September 3, the two sides agreed on the plan to "find another more suitable learning environment". The school based on Article 38 of Circular 32 of the Ministry of Education and Training to temporarily suspend classes.
"The school has not yet decided to suspend the student because it has not yet established a disciplinary council. Doing so will have a more serious impact on the student. During this time, the student can still study online," said Mr. Phat.
He emphasized that Victory School values discipline and cooperation from parents: "In this case, the cooperation of L.'s family is not enough."
Parents say "school is too insensitive"
According to Ms. T., the 2016 Law on Children (Article 99) stipulates that children have the right to study and education. Suspending her child without an official document and without clear notice "violated the right to study".
Circular 32/2020 of the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that the highest level of discipline is temporary suspension from school, accompanied by educational measures, and only applies to serious violations such as theft, fighting, and insulting teachers.
"My child is not in this category. He took leave for a reason and the teacher agreed. Why did the school force him to leave school?", Mrs. T. was indignant.
Last school year, L.'s results met the requirements, he was eligible to move up a grade, and he did not miss more than the required number of classes. Therefore, using the reason of being absent at the beginning of the year to consider it a "recidivism" and forcing him to leave school was said by Ms. T. to be "too insensitive" by the school.
