Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that 100% of the staff have completed training in politics, military, technical logistics, medical expertise, foreign languages and specific contents of the United Nations such as International Humanitarian Law, prevention and control of sexual violence, explosives identification, air medical transport, international trauma first aid... all ensuring sufficient capacity to perform the task. In particular, the units have conducted joint training close to the actual situation at the mission, improving the capacity for coordination and handling of complex situations. This is an important preparation step, helping officers and staff to be confident and proactive when performing tasks in a multinational, multicultural environment with many difficulties and challenges.
Speaking at the departure ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, highly appreciated the training and preparation efforts of the two units. He expressed his hope that international organizations, units, organizations and individuals would continue to support Vietnamese units to successfully complete their tasks at the United Nations missions. In addition, units must thoroughly grasp the Party's guidelines; regularly and proactively train and ensure readiness to rotate forces according to the requirements of the United Nations missions. The work of preparing forces, expertise, qualifications, soft skills and survival skills for officers and employees needs to be constantly innovated and improved in quality; at the same time, promote the spirit of solidarity, confidence, self-reliance and proactively coordinate well with relevant units at the United Nations missions to successfully complete their tasks. Units should strengthen inspection and supervision work, strictly comply with discipline and regulations and do a good job of the Army's rear.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that each soldier must not only fulfill their professional duties well but also be a "peace ambassador" at the United Nations Missions. This mission is not only to fulfill Vietnam's commitment to the United Nations but also an opportunity to promote the image of the country, people and the Vietnamese People's Army as peace-loving, proactive and active in international integration.
To date, Vietnam has sent about 1,300 officers, professional soldiers of the People's Army and People's Police to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
