JAKARTA POST. From 2024, the Indonesian provincial government of Bali will impose a tax of 150,000 rupiah ($10) on foreign tourists arriving on the island from abroad or from other parts of Indonesia.
BANGKOK POST. According to the results of the Thai prime minister election, Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat, the only elected candidate, received only 324 votes, 51 votes less than the required number to become the 30th prime minister of Thailand.

DAWN. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a $3 billion bailout package for Pakistan, releasing vital funds to the South Asian nation's struggling economy.
YONHAP. South Korea and the United States conducted joint air force exercises , with the participation of at least one US B-52H strategic bomber.
KOREA TIMES. South Korea will deploy solutions to offset the domestic labor shortage , including increasing the use of foreign workers, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho.
KYODO. The leaders of Japan and the EU announced that the two sides will establish a strategic dialogue at the foreign minister level as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation on security issues.

CNN. The US Federal Trade Commission is investigating OpenAI, accusing the maker of the ChatGPT chatbox tool of violating consumer protection laws by damaging its reputation and putting personal data at risk.
CNBC. Scorching heat continues to grip parts of the United States, stretching from California to southern Florida, with temperatures forecast to rise further in the coming days.
CBC. Canada has pledged $450 million CAD ($342.5 million USD) to a United Nations fund to help developing countries cope with climate change.
AP. The second round of the presidential election in Guatemala will take place on August 20, after a long delay due to a review of the first round results.
