At Vietnam Security Summit 2024, Mr. Lin Guanrui, Technical Director of Data Center Marketing and Solutions Division of Huawei Enterprise Asia Pacific (APAC) gave an important speech on the topic "Protecting data infrastructure against ransomware attacks".
With over 18 years of experience and extensive knowledge of infrastructure, he shared valuable experiences in solving practical problems and concluded that ransomware is a top threat, causing many attacks and heavy economic losses to businesses.
Ransomware has hit 66% of global organizations and 93% of data targets in 2023 (according to a report by Sophos and Veeam), causing $42 billion in damage by 2024. This number will continue to increase as the frequency of each attack shortens to just 2 seconds by 2031, according to estimates by the Cybersecurity Alliance.
To combat ransomware, Mr. Lin Guanrui has proposed the basic and best solution is to speed up the data recovery process. This is also the solution recommended by many leading organizations such as the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, etc.
And Huawei has developed a suite of secure storage solutions that detect and prevent ransomware attacks, as well as increase data recovery efficiency, enhancing data center protection for enterprises. Among them, Huawei MRP, the latest multi-layered anti-ransomware protection solution - is the industry's first anti-ransomware solution based on combining network storage technology with a 2-line defense architecture and 6 layers of comprehensive protection.
Huawei MRP builds an in-depth protection system for the pre-, during-, and post-attack stages, strictly following the Identify-Protect-Detect-Response-Recovery (IPDRR) Cybersecurity Framework of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The solution has been certified by the international testing organization Tolly Group for its ability to detect 100% of ransomware samples through network storage in 21 different attack scenarios.
“Cybersecurity is Huawei’s top priority,” Lin Guanrui emphasized. “In this important strategy, Huawei is committed to continuously optimizing its cybersecurity system comprehensively, complying with applicable laws, regulations, and standards of countries and referring to industry best practices.”
