Iran holds parliamentary elections

According to ABC News, on March 1, Iranian voters began going to polling stations to elect the 12th National Assembly and the 6th Assembly of Experts.

More than 61 million of Iran's 85 million people are eligible to vote in the general election. Earlier, the state-owned ISPA Voting Center released the results of a survey of 5,121 people of voting age, predicting a turnout of 23.5% in the capital Tehran and 38.5% nationwide.

In this election, more than 15,000 candidates from different social classes will compete for 290 seats in the National Assembly. A total of 144 candidates will compete for seats in the Assembly of Experts, which will serve an eight-year term. The election results are expected to be out on March 2-3.
