On the morning of June 17, Mr. Pham Quoc Huy, Executive Director of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway project, said that regarding the complaints about the inappropriate road markings at the Ma Lam intersection, Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex JSC) has begun to repair and adjust the road markings accordingly.

It was noted that on the same morning, Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex JSC) mobilized many human resources and machines to be present at the entrance to Ma Lam intersection ( Binh Thuan province) of Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway, to carry out the adjustment of road markings that is considered a "puzzle" for drivers.

Adjust road markings by increasing the length of dashed lines and decreasing the length of solid lines.

"The adjustment of road markings will be completed today (June 17). In particular, relevant units will adjust the length of the solid lines of the road markings and increase the length of the broken lines to facilitate vehicles exiting the Ma Lam intersection," informed Mr. Pham Quoc Huy.

As reported by SGGP Newspaper, in recent days, an online forum on traffic safety has shared about many drivers being fined for driving over the road markings at the exit of Ma Lam intersection, on Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway.

Adjusting road markings at Ma Lam intersection exit according to people's feedback

Specifically, drivers traveling on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway in the North - South direction, if they want to turn into the Ma Lam intersection (from Ho Chi Minh City to Ninh Thuan ), will encounter a road marking consisting of a broken line and a solid line at the beginning of the intersection. Notably, this road marking is designed with a fairly long solid line, while the broken line is short. Many drivers, when changing lanes to turn into the highway exit of the Ma Lam intersection, if they do not pay attention, will run over the line. When the vehicle is almost at the end of the highway exit, the traffic police will stop the vehicle and notify the violation of "illegible lane change".

Many drivers believe that the broken line at the highway exit is too short, making it difficult for drivers to handle. Meanwhile, the solid line at the end of the broken line is too long. Some also say that the road markings at this location “puzzle” drivers.

Upon receiving the incident, the project investor, the Department of Road Traffic Police (C08), Road Management Area IV, the Department of Construction of Binh Thuan province and relevant parties agreed to reduce the length of the solid line and increase the length of the broken line.

Specifically, at the Ma Lam intersection (Km208+701.74, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway), the current arrangement of lane separation lines in the lane separation area includes: 72m long solid white line, 58m long broken white line.

However, to suit the operating conditions, the relevant units agreed to reduce the length of the solid line from 72m to 35m; at the same time, extend the area of the broken line from 68m to 108m, to facilitate vehicles when separating lanes onto branch roads.
