Dat Mui Primary School 1 has nearly 800 students, many of whom go to school by ferry, crossing the crisscrossing canals. Mr. Nguyen Van Teo, parent of Nguyen Trieu Linh (grade 5) and Nguyen Trung Hieu (grade 6), said that the cost of picking up and dropping off his children and providing food for them each day is about 300,000 VND. Of which, the cost of breakfast, lunch, and lunch for the two children is about 180,000 VND, plus nearly 150,000 VND for his 4 trips back and forth. In addition, to cover the cost, he also takes 4 other students, charging 30,000 VND/student for fuel.
That journey repeats every day, as a way for parents of Dat Mui to "row" their children's dreams of education across the waves.

Not only Mr. Teo, hundreds of families at the end of the map of Vietnam are attached to the small boat that takes their children to school. Dat Mui commune currently has 7 schools with more than 3,300 students, most of whom have difficulty traveling because many areas do not have roads. However, in the midst of difficulties, the opening ceremony at each school is still solemn and cozy, so that students here can fully feel the atmosphere of the first day of school.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau, in the 2025-2026 school year, the province has 756 schools, from kindergarten to high school, with more than 387,000 students and over 24,000 teachers and administrators. During the summer, the education sector focused on renovating and repairing classrooms, investing in teaching equipment, and ensuring basic facilities to meet teaching and learning requirements.
Dat Mui Primary School 1 still has more than 100 students having to go to school by boat.
