On April 29, information from Da Nang Family Hospital said that it had just successfully performed surgery to remove a 1.7 x 1 cm adrenal tumor for a female patient NTTT (45 years old, residing in Quang Nam ). This tumor is the cause of high blood pressure for the female patient NTTT.
Previously, Ms. T. was hospitalized for high blood pressure, low blood potassium, numbness and weakness in the limbs, and dizziness. Ms. T. said she had a history of high blood pressure and had been taking medication for the past 5 years.
Through examination and MRI scan, doctors discovered that Ms. T. had a left adrenal gland tumor, measuring 1.7 x 1 cm, which could be the main cause of high blood pressure.
Doctor CK1 Ho Huy, Head of the Andrology - Urology Unit, Family Hospital, said that doctors decided to perform endoscopic surgery to remove the tumor.
Surgeons remove tumor from patient
On April 24, doctors performed retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery. After about 1 hour of surgery, the adrenal tumor was removed.
After only 12 hours of surgery, the health of female patient T. recovered well, blood pressure returned to normal without needing to use blood pressure control medication. As of today (April 29), the patient has been discharged from the hospital.
According to Dr. Ho Huy, high blood pressure is a common disease in the community. 90% of cases have no identifiable cause (idiopathic) and must take medication to control blood pressure for life. 10% of cases have secondary high blood pressure due to diseases (such as renal artery stenosis, chronic kidney failure, hyperthyroidism, adrenal gland disease, etc.).
In case of hypertension due to adrenal tumors, retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a minimally invasive surgery, helping patients recover quickly and treat hypertension.
