Groundbreaking ceremony of the project to invest in building runway No. 2 of Phu Cat Airport

On August 19, 2025, at Phu Cat Airport, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee held the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to invest in building runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport's flight area.

This activity is part of the groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony of 250 typical works nationwide to celebrate the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025). The ceremony was held online from the central point at the National Exhibition Fair Center ( Hanoi ) to 79 points of 34 provinces and cities nationwide.

At the Hanoi bridge, General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other Party and State leaders attended and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the National Exhibition and Fair Center.

The investment project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport's flight area is being implemented to ensure safe and effective civil aviation operations.

The level I aviation project (airport and facilities to ensure flight operations) has a total investment of VND 3,245,089 billion (of which VND 1,500 billion is from the central budget, the rest is from the local budget), ensuring the reception of Code C aircraft such as A320, A321 and equivalent (can receive Code E aircraft when needed); construction is expected to take place within 12 months.

The project's scale includes: Construction of runway No. 2 (33L-15R) located parallel, 215 m west of the existing runway with runway dimensions (3,048 x 45) m; construction of 4 connecting taxiways and 2 quick-exit taxiways; drainage ditch system along both sides of the runway No. 2 leveling strip; underground sewer system, seepage ditch system, border ditch system, addition of synchronous connecting manhole system to ensure drainage of the project; flight operation assurance system, service roads, construction of fences, guard booths for synchronous security services...

In addition, the project will build flight operations assurance systems such as CAT II (head 33R) and CAT I (head 15L) approach lights, sign systems, beacons, lighting, automatic meteorological monitoring, power station buildings and synchronous power supply equipment to serve operations.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Phu Cat Airport plays an important role in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the South Central region, Central Highlands and Gia Lai. In recent times, the province has closely coordinated with ministries, branches and airlines to increase flights, promote trade, tourism and attract investment. However, the Airport is currently overloaded, the runway is degraded; it is forecasted that by 2030, the demand for travel and transportation will increase sharply, requiring early investment in upgrading infrastructure to meet development needs.

To effectively promote the advantages of location, importance and available potential, Phu Cat Airport needs to be prioritized for synchronous, modern and sustainable investment. After completion, Runway No. 2 will serve both civil and military aviation activities in parallel, contributing to increasing operating capacity, meeting development needs, in accordance with the Phu Cat Airport Planning for the period 2021-2030, vision 2050.

In Gia Lai, leaders of the Central Government, the province, departments, branches and localities also pressed the button to start the project to invest in building runway No. 2 and synchronous works at the Phu Cat Airport.

Also on the morning of August 19, 2025, many projects and works were started, inaugurated, and broke ground in Gia Lai province such as: Inauguration of the project of the road connecting the western provincial road to the coastal road through Phu My district (19.2km long, total investment of more than 818 billion VND); Inauguration of the project to build a bypass road south of Phu Phong town (17.98km long, total investment of more than 791 billion VND); Commencement of the project of Vinanutrifood concentrated agricultural and forestry production and processing area (area of ​​10 hectares, nearly 500 billion VND); Commencement of the project of investment, construction and business of infrastructure of Phu My industrial park - phase 1 (area of ​​436.87 hectares, total investment of more than 4,569 billion VND); Commencement of the project of construction and business of technical infrastructure of Binh Thanh Industrial Cluster (area of ​​75 hectares, more than 320 billion VND); Commencement of the project to build and operate the technical infrastructure of Cat Hiep Industrial Cluster (area of ​​50 hectares, 284.3 billion VND); Groundbreaking of the Cat Hanh Industrial Cluster Project in Tan Hoa Nam village, Hoa Hoi commune (area of ​​70 hectares, total investment capital of more than 432 billion VND).
