Consecutive airstrikes in Sudan, 50 people killed

On October 22, two airstrikes targeting areas in Sudan killed dozens of people, including children.

AFP news agency reported that according to the Sudanese Volunteer Rescue Force, on October 22, the Sudanese army conducted an airstrike on the capital Khartoum, killing 20 people - including four children - and injuring 27 others.

On the same day, another airstrike on the Sheikh El Jeili mosque in Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira state, killed at least 31 people. The attack occurred shortly after evening prayers, of which 15 victims have been identified.

These attacks come amid a fierce conflict between the Sudanese Army (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has been ongoing since April 2023. In particular, in Al-Jazira state, battles have left more than 50 people dead since October 20.

According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, conflict has claimed the lives of more than 24,850 people in Sudan.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) says nearly a third of war-related injuries are women and children under 10 years old.
