Perseverance with marine farming

These days, the aquaculture work of Mr. Tran Van Chuong (Ong Cu island, Cam Dong ward, Cam Pha city) is facing many difficulties due to damage caused by storm No. 3. However, with 20 years of experience in the profession, with love and faith in the sea, Mr. Chuong is confident in focusing on reproducing, determined to develop his production scale further than before.

Born and raised in Lien Hoa (Quang Yen town), Mr. Chuong soon became familiar with the fishing profession. After many years of fishing on fishing boats in coastal, offshore and offshore areas, Mr. Chuong has a certain understanding of the growth and development of fish and shrimp. In 2000, Mr. Chuong decided to switch to aquaculture in Ong Cu island (Cam Dong ward, Cam Pha city). Starting with 5 small grouper cages, Mr. Chuong gradually built a wooden raft system with nearly 50 cages for raising grouper, cobia, and various types of pompano.

Over time, Mr. Chuong became a skilled and experienced fish farmer on Ong Cu Island. His fish are healthy and grow quickly thanks to being fed with the right amount of trash fish, having their net cages cleaned regularly, and being timely leveled at each stage of development to have the best living space.

Mr. Chuong shared: Each farmer has their own way of doing things, however the basic factor that everyone must do well is to closely monitor and pay attention to their fish. The whole process of raising fish from small to mature can take up to 2 years, so every day the farmer must grasp its symptoms, immediately detect abnormalities and handle them effectively...

From this method, the quantity and quality of Mr. Chuong's fish are highly appreciated and are purchased by traders at good prices. The income from aquaculture at sea brings Mr. Chuong several hundred million to billions of VND per fishing season. This not only helps him stabilize his life, but also gives him the conditions to take care of his children's education, build a big and beautiful house in Lien Hoa, as well as help his brothers and friends with jobs and start-up capital.

At present, in the Ong Cu island area, there are dozens of relatives who have been guided by Mr. Chuong to work in aquaculture, forming a strong cooperative group at sea, helping, encouraging, and sharing with each other in production as well as in life, especially when facing difficulties. For example, after the recent storm No. 3, in the face of heavy damage, many people were about to give up, but Mr. Chuong and everyone in the cooperative promptly shared, encouraged each other, and told each other to start again.

Since the beginning of November, Mr. Chuong has completed the work of reinforcing the old cages, building new cages to focus on raising the remaining fish while finding suitable fish sources to release additional fish, hoping for a new batch of fish to grow strong. Mr. Chuong confided: The seafaring industry is inherently volatile, sometimes there are gains, sometimes there are losses, that is normal, the important thing is that we have determination. Compared to many other jobs on land, the seafaring industry is considered easier, more suitable and our biggest advantage, so we are determined to follow the profession. I believe that myself and those who are passionate about the seafaring industry will become rich from the sea.
