High School Graduation Exam 2024: Safe and serious

Immediately after the end of the 2024 high school graduation exam, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) held a press conference to inform about the exam under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Head of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 high school graduation exam.

No leaking of questions

According to Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management - Ministry of Education and Training, this year there were a total of 1,071,393 candidates registered to take the exam. During the entire exam, 30 candidates violated the exam regulations and were suspended from the exam due to using documents and bringing phones into the exam room. No staff violated the exam regulations.

According to Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, the organization of the exam at all exam locations ensures safety, seriousness, and compliance with the plan, meeting the requirements for a compact and practical exam. The exam is organized seriously, honestly, objectively, safely, and in accordance with regulations, ensuring convenience and fairness for all candidates.

The exam work is carried out seriously, safely and confidentially from the central to local levels. The exam basically meets the requirements for organizing the exam. According to the initial assessment of candidates, teachers and public opinion, the exam papers of the exams/subjects are in the high school program, with appropriate differentiation to ensure accurate and objective exam results used to consider recognition of high school graduation and provide data for universities and vocational education institutions to use for enrollment in the spirit of autonomy.

In response to concerns about the leaking of the literature exam questions, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, affirmed that there was no leaking of the literature exam questions. The evidence for leaking and leaking questions would be that there would be a copy of the exam questions that had the same language and requirements. But this did not happen.

Speaking more about this issue, Major General Tran Dinh Chung, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Political Security - Ministry of Public Security , said that based on the report of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Public Security has checked and found the subject who spread false information about the exam questions and this male student admitted that he made the clip himself, and pledged not to repeat the offense. According to Major General Tran Dinh Chung, in the coming time, if any more information is discovered, the Ministry of Public Security will continue to investigate and check.

Guarantee the rights of candidates

Answering the question on the literature exam, whether open answers, open questions, expressing the candidate's personality and different viewpoints will be scored or not, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha said that each exam has certain criteria on education. Besides suggestions and instructions on scoring, there is also an open part. If the candidate answers in the right direction and has a developmental nature, it will be considered for "open scoring".

Discussing the English exam using materials from major newspapers, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha shared that for exams in general, especially foreign languages, the use of materials must be reliable. Materials often use newspapers that are standard in content and style. Therefore, having basic sources such as books, magazines or some major newspapers is normal.

"The test questions have been renewed, the content is better, and closer to reality. This is also the guiding viewpoint of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training. The structure and format of the test questions have not changed, but the method is closer to reality, suggesting capacity development, a stepping stone, and asymptotic for students to get acquainted with the way of making test questions according to the 2018 General Education Program" - Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha said.

Regarding the history exam, in question 319, question 40, many teachers gave different answers, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha said the ministry will receive this information. The exchange and understanding will be carried out not only during the exam but also after the exam.

Regarding the 119 math exam codes having dozens of errors in Dak Lak, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the steering committee has grasped the information and assigned the provincial exam steering committee to specifically review and handle the issue according to the principle of ensuring the rights of candidates. If the printed error causes candidates to not be able to read the questions or do the task, a specific handling plan will be reported.

Exam results will be announced on July 17.

Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong said that it is expected that at 8:00 a.m. on July 17, the exam scores of candidates nationwide will be announced. The Departments of Education and Training will be responsible for the high school graduation exam of candidates. After the exam scores are available, candidates wishing to apply for university admission will register their wishes on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training, including early admission wishes and admission wishes using high school graduation exam results.

The leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training said that they will continue to direct, guide and strengthen inspection, examination and supervision to ensure good implementation of the stages of marking, comparing test score data, announcing test results, reviewing test papers, considering recognition of high school graduation for candidates and university admission. The inspection teams of the National Examination Steering Committee and 63 inspection teams of the Ministry of Education and Training will inspect the marking work at 63 examination councils throughout the duration of this activity to enhance the seriousness of the marking work.
