After more than a month of consulting with ministries and branches, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has submitted to the Prime Minister a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday schedule, from January 25 to February 2, 2025 (from December 26 to January 5). If this plan is approved by the Prime Minister, officials, civil servants and public employees will have 9 consecutive days off for the Lunar New Year 2025.
Schools require students to have 2 weeks off for Tet
However, universities build longer holiday schedules for students, trainees and postgraduates. The holiday time varies from school to school, ranging from 2-4 weeks.
Accordingly, many universities give students a 2-week Tet holiday. For example, students at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) will have a holiday from January 23, 2025 to February 5, 2025 (ie December 24 to January 8 of the lunar calendar).

The President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University has just issued a notice of the Tet holiday schedule to students, trainees, and postgraduates. In particular, the Tet holiday period for At Ty year 2025 is 14 days, from January 27, 2025 to February 9, 2025 (ie December 28, Giap Thin year to January 12, At Ty year).
Schools that stipulate a 3-week Tet holiday
Meanwhile, many schools have regulations that students will have a 3-week Lunar New Year holiday, for example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education will start its break from January 20, 2025 to February 8, 2025.
The University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also plans to give students a 3-week Tet holiday, from January 26, 2025 to February 16, 2025 (ie December 27 to January 19).
Students of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City also have a 3-week break, from January 19, 2025 to February 9, 2025.
Ho Chi Minh City Open University stipulates that the Tet holiday will be from January 20, 2025 to February 9, 2025 (ie December 21 to January 12), a total of 3 weeks off.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Van Lang University also stipulate that students will have a 3-week Tet holiday, with the same break period from January 20, 2025 to February 9, 2025 (ie December 21 to January 12).

Which university gives students the longest Tet holiday?
There are schools where students have 2-3 weeks more Tet holiday. For example, students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will have 28 days off for the Lunar New Year 2025. The holiday period starts from January 20, 2025 to February 16, 2025 (ie December 21 to January 19).
Notably, some schools combine Tet holiday with online teaching, creating conditions for students far from home to return home for the long Tet holiday. Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry announced that all students and trainees of the school will have a 23-day Lunar New Year holiday, from January 20, 2025 to February 11, 2025 (ie students will be off from December 21 to January 14). In addition to the above time, the school will switch from in-person to online training for theoretical courses before and after the Lunar New Year holiday, for a total of 2 weeks. Thus, students of this university can return home for nearly 40 days.
Similarly, according to the plan of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, students will have a 2-week Lunar New Year holiday, from January 23, 2025 to February 5, 2025 (ie December 24 to January 8). The school also organizes online learning for students one week before and one week after the Tet holiday. Thus, students of this school can return home for 4 weeks of Tet holiday.
Unlike university students, kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school students in Ho Chi Minh City will have Tet holiday from January 25, 2025 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 26 to January 5 of the lunar calendar). Thus, including weekends before and after the prescribed time, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 9 days off, 7 days less than last year.
