The World Pool Championship officially kicked off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia today (July 21) with the participation of 128 of the world's top players. Among them, Vietnam's pool billiards has 5 representatives competing: Duong Quoc Hoang (Hoang Sao), Luong Duc Thien, Nguyen Anh Tuan (Tkon), Pham Phuong Nam and Bui Truong An.

The first two Vietnamese players to take the field at the 2025 World Pool Championship are Hoang Sao and Duc Thien, both at 11:30 p.m. tonight (July 21, Vietnam time). Specifically, Duong Quoc Hoang will meet Jj Faul (South Africa, ranked 151st in the world), while Duc Thien will face former world No. 1 American Shane Van Boening (currently ranked 12th).

The remaining three Vietnamese players will compete on the afternoon of July 22. At 5:00 p.m. on July 22: Nguyen Anh Tuan meets Pijus Labutis (Lithuania, ranked 13th in the world), Pham Phuong Nam meets formidable opponent Aloysius Yapp (Singapore, ranked 2nd in the world). At 6:30 p.m. on July 22: Bui Truong An meets Wiktor Zielinski (Poland, ranked 15th in the world).

In the opening five matches, four out of five opponents of the Vietnamese representatives are in the world's top 15, according to the current World Nineball Tour (WNT) rankings.

The tournament is played on a double-elimination basis. The winners advance to the next round of the winners bracket, while the losers are sent to the losers bracket and must win to have any hope of advancing. The qualifying round is a best-of-nine.

The 2025 World Pool Championship is the most prestigious tournament of the year in the world of pool billiards, with a total prize value of up to 1 million USD (equivalent to 26.16 billion VND), the highest in the history of the tournament. Accordingly, the champion of the tournament will pocket a prize of 250,000 USD (about 6.5 billion VND), the runner-up will receive 100,000 USD, the third place will receive 50,000 USD/person...
