Great need for additional human resources

Currently, many businesses in the city have a need to recruit and use human resources in the tourism industry. According to forecasts, by 2030, accommodation establishments in the city will need to employ more than 1 million workers, not to mention other travel agencies and food service units. Therefore, each year, the city needs to add an average of about 60,000 workers each year.

Despite such a large demand, many businesses operating in the tourism sector - the "smokeless industry" in the area are still "struggling" to find human resources to meet and serve business activities. Mr. Nguyen Quyet Thang, Deputy Executive Director of Tre Viet International Travel Company (at 361 Tran Nguyen Dan Street, Tran Hung Dao Ward) informed that the company is in need of recruiting about 200 workers in the tourism sector. The most difficult thing in the recruitment work of the enterprise is not being able to find experienced workers, with many years of experience, and providing effective solutions to convince customers. After merging Hai Duong province with Hai Phong city, the enterprise hopes to be able to expand the scope of recruitment, attracting human resources in the East Hai Phong area - where there are unique sea tourism products, many specialized and outstanding tourism human resource training facilities.

Many other units are looking for personnel for new business solutions, which are about to be implemented. Ms. Nguyen Bich Thuy, Deputy Director of MingTravel Trade and Tourism Services Joint Stock Company (Dong Hai Ward) said that the Company provides domestic and international tour products. However, through surveying the current needs of customers, the business aims to develop short-term tours, within the East and West of Hai Phong, suitable for the needs of a group of young people to learn and explore the characteristics and products of their homeland.

Closely linked from the training stage

In order to promptly supplement human resources for the tourism industry, a number of vocational training institutions in the city have applied many flexible and creative methods. For example, the College of Fisheries and Food Technology has just opened a new major in beverage mixing, food processing, hotel and restaurant management. The Hai Duong College of Tourism and Industry focuses on opening short-term training courses in beverage mixing techniques, restaurant operations, food processing techniques, etc. to train and retrain workers to approach new tourism trends.

According to Ms. Le Thi Trang, Deputy Director of Vietravel Hai Phong Company Limited, this company cooperates with Hai Phong University to train human resources in the tourism industry. Students have an environment to practice early in their careers. Through this, they can reveal their qualities and strengths to score points with employers and negotiate to achieve appropriate compensation, commensurate with their abilities. This also brings "double benefits" because the company is supplemented with human resources that meet their wishes, desires and needs.

Hai Phong College of Tourism cooperates in training with more than 30 enterprises and units operating in the field of tourism, travel, and accommodation services in and outside the city. Ms. Mai Thi Hue, Vice Principal of the school, said that students usually have 3-4 months (2 periods) of internship at the enterprise. This is also an opportunity for the enterprise to understand the training products of the school as well as the skills of the workers who are about to be recruited and work at the enterprise.

Not only accompanying the school in evaluating training "products", strategic partners who are businesses also regularly coordinate with the school in vocational competitions to discover and nurture the development of highly skilled, high-quality workers, serving the development of the tourism industry in the future.

In addition, students studying hotel management are one of the 9 industries and occupations that are eligible for support under Resolution No. 03/2024/NQ-HDND stipulating policies to support training in a number of occupations in Hai Phong city in the period of 2024 - 2030. With the synchronous efforts and close coordination of units and the city's specific support mechanisms, it has been creating an important premise for developing human resources in the tourism industry, making tourism one of the 3 key economic sectors of the Port City in the coming time.

Recently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the opening ceremony of a tourism training course for officers and employees of accommodation service establishments in the city.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Do Thanh Binh, not only the service staff at accommodation establishments, in the coming time, the Department will strengthen the organization of classes to improve professional qualifications, professional skills and service style, which is an urgent requirement for employees working in the field of culture and tourism, meeting the increasing needs of tourists. At the same time, the Department will advise the City People's Committee on the mechanism to attract high-quality human resources to serve the tourism industry, develop new products, promote the unique values of the heritage and cultural characteristics of the East...
