A doctor has signs of profiting from health insurance worth hundreds of millions of dong.

On December 12, Dr. Le Van Tien, Director of Lam Dong General Hospital (Lam Dong General Hospital), said that he was temporarily suspending the examination of Dr. LVN (Examination - Emergency Department, Lam Dong General Hospital) to verify that this doctor had signs of violating regulations and taking advantage of health insurance with an amount of hundreds of millions of dong.

According to Dr. Tien, in the first 9 months of 2023, Dr. N. "helped" examine patients at home, or patients did not go to the hospital for examination, but Dr. N. still prescribed medicine and signed on behalf of 53 patients to receive health insurance drugs with a total value of up to nearly 900 million VND.

After the authorities discovered, the Health Insurance Appraisal Department (Lam Dong Provincial Social Insurance) refused to pay the health insurance examination and treatment costs for the first 9 months of 2023 for 19 verified cases with an amount of more than 357 million VND (performed by Dr. N.); temporarily withheld payment of health insurance examination and treatment costs for 34 cases for further verification and clarification, with an amount of more than 527 million VND.

Also according to Dr. Tien, by December 12, Dr. N. had voluntarily returned the amount of over 357 million VND in violation.

Previously, Dr. N. admitted to the Board of Directors of Lam Dong General Hospital that he had abused the trust of colleagues and patients, violated the rules for prescribing health insurance drugs and the medical examination and treatment procedures of the Ministry of Health .

On the same day, Mr. Tran Van Son, Deputy Director of Lam Dong Provincial Social Insurance, said that he was coordinating with Lam Dong General Hospital to urgently check and review all cases of Dr. N. examining patients and prescribing medicine in 2023.

According to Mr. Son, this is the biggest case of violation of health insurance in Lam Dong province so far.
