Prolonged heavy rain in the North, warning of risk of flooding and flash floods

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on June 29, the Northern region will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, and locally very heavy rain. Rainfall is generally from 70-140mm, some places may exceed 250mm. In particular, there is a warning of the risk of heavy rain of over 100mm in just 3 hours.

Last night (June 28), many places in the North recorded heavy rain. The amount of rain from 7:00 p.m. on June 28 to 3:00 a.m. on June 29 in some places such as Khanh Hoa ( Yen Bai ) reached 102mm, Muong Chieng (Hoa Binh) 68.2mm, Xuan Dai (Phu Tho) 62.2mm, Ha Lang (Tuyen Quang) 58mm, Xuan Thuong (Lao Cai) 59mm and Yen Binh (Ha Giang) 55mm.

In addition to the North, in the afternoon and evening of June 29, areas from Thanh Hoa, Nghe An to the Central Highlands and the South are likely to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10-30mm, in some places exceeding 50mm.

From early morning of July 1 to early morning of July 2, the next heavy rain will continue to affect the North, with rainfall ranging from 30-70mm, in some places over 150mm. Widespread heavy rain in the North is forecast to last until around July 2, with total rainfall ranging from 100-300mm, in some places over 500mm.

During thunderstorms, people need to be on guard against dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds. The warning level for natural disaster risks due to heavy rain is assessed at level 1.

Risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial zones; high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in mountainous and steep areas.
