The US Department of Justice announced on November 20 that it had indicted and issued an arrest warrant for Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, the second richest man in Asia, on charges related to a bribery conspiracy.
Why did the US issue an arrest warrant for an Indian billionaire?
New York City prosecutors said that Mr. Adani and seven senior executives of other businesses planned to bribe more than $250 million to Indian government officials to get solar power project contracts.
US authorities have also accused the Indian billionaire of defrauding investors to raise capital. Reuters reported that a New York judge on November 20 issued arrest warrants for Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani. Adani Group, founded by Gautam Adani, said the US allegations were baseless and would take legal action.
