Raising the bar for arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery in Vietnam

From July 31 to August 2, the scientific conference 'Better results with advanced techniques' took place in Ho Chi Minh City, gathering experts in arthroscopy and joint replacement from many continents.

The program is jointly organized by the Vietnam Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement Association (VAAS), the Asia- Pacific Joint Replacement Association (APAS), the Asia-Pacific Hip Society (AAHS), the Ho Chi Minh City Arthroscopy Association (HAS), and the Ho Chi Minh City Joint Replacement Association (HAA).

The conference has more than 100 foreign reporters, 800 domestic doctors and about 200 doctors in the Asia- Pacific region and many places around the world registered to attend.

On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh, President of VAAS, said: "Arthroscopy and joint replacement are two fields that are developing rapidly, helping to improve the quality of life for patients. However, because of rapid development and constant new developments, many problems will arise when applied, so in addition to updating new knowledge, it is very important to learn from the experiences of predecessors."

According to Mr. Nam Anh, for many Vietnamese doctors, attending conferences abroad is not easy for many reasons such as time, cost, etc. Given this reality, the Vietnam Association of Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement tries to bring famous doctors from many places in the world to share their experiences so that domestic doctors have the opportunity to exchange and learn, and can also present research in Vietnam with international colleagues. "Through this, we also show that the field of arthroscopy and joint replacement in our country is also developing strongly," Dr. Nam Anh commented.

It is noteworthy that the reporters represent many different "schools" and different environments such as: Europe, America, Japan, Korea, India, Southeast Asia...

In addition to the official program with reports on advances and experiences in arthroscopy and joint replacement, one day before the opening, domestic and foreign doctors had the opportunity to attend a number of discussions and practice sessions on cruciate ligament reconstruction techniques, meniscus suturing, watch robotic joint replacements demonstrated on models, update knowledge on patient preparation before joint replacement surgery and post-operative recovery care.
