Every spring, the Dao Tuyen people in Ban Phiet commune look forward to the “Hat qua lang” festival to wish for blessings and celebrate the new year through love songs and participating in folk games. This is a traditional custom imbued with the unique culture of the Dao Tuyen people in Ban Phiet commune.
Villagers compete in singing about spring, love, love songs, and New Year wishes...
Legend has it that long ago, the Dao Tuyen people's land in the high mountains had no markets, so people had a custom of holding a festival of singing and responding between guests and the host on Tet. This was later called the "Hat qua lang" festival in the spring to invite villagers around the area to compete in singing, performing arts, and sports to pray for favorable weather, good harvests, and family peace and happiness. This was also an opportunity for close friends who lived far apart but became close to each other after attending the "Hat qua lang" festival the previous year. More specifically, through the days and nights of singing and responding in the spring, there were couples who became husband and wife.
The men's group of Lang Chung village participated in singing and wishing good health at the beginning of the year.
This year's "Hat qua lang" festival was held on the morning of February 5 in Nam Suu village. From early morning, a large number of people were present at the village cultural house. Everyone was smiling brightly in the most beautiful traditional costumes of their ethnic group. After the opening and congratulations from the Party Committee and the government, the main part of the festival was organized according to the traditional ritual of welcoming guests to the house of the Dao Tuyen people to wish them a happy New Year. This year's antiphonal singing by the men of Lang Chung village was very impressive, they sang to welcome the new year, asked about health, family happiness... to the women of Nam Suu village. In turn, the women of Nam Suu village sang back and asked about the economic situation of the past year. Traditional songs of the Dao people were performed by boys and girls such as: wishing a new year, wishing a happy family, love exchange, singing in response to spring, love between couples...
Along with "Singing through the village", many traditional sports such as tug of war, stick pushing, and volleyball were also organized, attracting a large number of people to participate.
The "Singing through the village" festival is an activity to preserve and promote the fine traditions of the Dao Tuyen ethnic group in particular, and the cultural traditions of the ethnic groups in Ban Phiet commune in general. It is both an opportunity to meet and exchange cultures between ethnic groups, and has the meaning of further strengthening the solidarity and unity between ethnic groups to join hands in preserving cultural identity and building a new countryside for Ban Phiet commune to develop more and more.
