Speaking ahead of the visit, Foreign Minister Peters said: “New Zealand has warm and long-standing relationships with both South Korea and Japan. Relationships with these partners are vital to New Zealand’s current prosperity and security.”

As planned, upon arriving in South Korea, Mr. Peters will hold talks with his counterpart Cho Tae Yul and National Security Advisor Chang Ho Jin. In Japan, Mr. Peters will attend the 10th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PALM10), chaired by Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Tokyo. He will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with Pacific Island leaders and Japanese ministers.

“Over the past seven months, we have worked closely with Pacific leaders, visiting more than half of the Pacific Islands Forum member states. We are committed to maintaining a deep focus on the Pacific to enhance development and security across the region,” Secretary Peters stressed.

Mr. Peters welcomed Japan's long-standing engagement and commitment to working through the Pacific Islands Forum to address the complex challenges facing the region, including climate, economic and security concerns.
