Many areas were lost.
Looking forward to a good rice crop, but this summer-autumn crop, although luckier than the households that suffered a complete loss, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Luoc in Mau 2 hamlet, Kim Lien commune still cannot be happy.
“After much care, the rice was in bloom, but it rained. After blooming, it continued to rain for 5 days before receding. The rice grains were half-empty, with flowers but no grains. While in previous years the yield was over 300 kg, this year we could only salvage over 100 kg/sao, the yield was half that of previous crops. The price of rice was also only half, traders bought fresh rice for 4,600 VND/kg, a loss in every way,” Mr. Nguyen Xuan Luoc shared.

Kim Lien commune has 2,237 hectares of rice, but due to the impact of consecutive storms No. 5 and No. 6, up to 1,800 hectares of rice in the area are completely unharvestable.
Mr. Tran Manh Hong - Commune Economic Department said: Currently, people are focusing on harvesting the remaining 500 hectares of rice. However, although the rice yield in this area has not been completely lost, it has decreased from 1/3 to half compared to previous years.

The impact of storm No. 5 had not yet passed when heavy rains were caused by storm No. 6. Consecutive natural disasters caused flooding for dozens of days, causing the total loss of 1,800/2,337 hectares of summer-autumn rice in Kim Lien commune.
Mr. Tran Manh Hong - Economic Department of Kim Lien Commune
As one of the key rice areas of the province, but this summer-autumn crop, Quang Chau commune's rice yield is also at a record low. Heavy rains have caused more than 700/864 hectares of rice in the commune to fall over before the rice is fully ripe. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tinh - Commune Economic Department, although there are no official statistics, about 60 hectares of rice are completely unharvestable; the remaining fallen rice areas have a yield of only 80 - 100 kg/sao.

Rice purchase price drops sharply
The damage was not as severe as in Kim Lien and Quang Chau communes, but in many other localities of the province, rice productivity this year also decreased sharply.
Her family owns 10 sao of rice in field 37, Thuan Trung commune. In this year's summer-autumn rice crop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh only harvested 2 quintals of rice per sao, 1-1.5 quintals lower than previous years. Ms. Minh said that a few days after the rice bloomed, it rained and the rice field was also damaged by leaf rollers.

Sharing the same situation, in almost all communes in Do Luong district (old), rice productivity is lower than previous years.
Mr. Le Anh Son - Head of Do Luong Agricultural Service Station said: There are 2 main factors affecting the reduction of rice yield and quality. That is, the 5th and 6th generation of small leaf rollers at the rice grain formation stage were not properly prevented by some people according to recommendations, causing empty grains in the summer-autumn rice areas of Van Hien and Bach Ha communes... Along with that, both rice fields in the area were heavily affected by storms when entering the flowering period.

Up to now, Nghe An has harvested more than 26,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, concentrated in the communes of Yen Thanh, Quan Thanh, Quang Chau, Dien Chau, Van Hien...
According to initial assessment, this year's summer-autumn rice yield is very low compared to previous years, due to the impact of storms No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 causing floods, reducing the yield of many rice areas, especially some areas were completely lost.

Not only losing productivity, farmers also suffered heavy losses because poor quality rice was purchased by traders at the field at a price only half that of last year, from 4,600 to 5,200 VND/kg.

"This year, due to the impact of the prolonged spring crop production, the summer-autumn rice harvest is delayed. It is expected that the whole province will complete the harvest by the end of September," said Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection.
