Hanoians are excitedly shopping, waiting for the Lunar New Year 2024.
In the last hours of the Year of the Cat, in all the big and small markets in Hanoi, everywhere is bustling with people shopping for Tet from early morning.
At Hang Be market (Hoan Kiem district), many people flocked to buy offerings and food to prepare for the ancestral altar on New Year's Eve.
Shipper works at full capacity to deliver goods to customers.
Street vendors selling old coriander leaves are sought after by many people. Everyone wants to buy old coriander leaves to boil, so that the typical Tet flavor can fill their house.
A variety of pre-made dishes are on display, allowing housewives to choose freely for their New Year's Eve dinner.
Banh chung and braised fish - familiar dishes during Tet - are the most purchased.
People also gathered to choose and buy fruits to prepare for the five-fruit tray to offer on the altar - a familiar custom of Vietnamese people on the traditional New Year's Day.
"Every year, I take advantage of the morning of the 30th of Tet to buy fruit to burn incense for the three days of Tet and New Year's Eve. Going to the market on the eve of Tet is not only to shop but also to feel the moment of New Year's Eve approaching. This is a very special feeling that cannot be found on any other day," a customer shared.
Unique and beautiful fruits attract buyers.
On the 30th of Tet, many people buy peach blossoms to decorate their houses.
The bright red peach blossoms at Hang Luoc flower market (Hoan Kiem district) create a vivid spring picture.
Small peach branches cost 100,000 - 200,000 VND/branch and are often chosen by people to display on the altar during Tet.
"This year's weather is erratic, not as cold as usual, so peach blossoms bloom early and prices have dropped sharply. However, many people in Hanoi still like to play with peach blossoms because when talking about Tet in the North, we cannot help but talk about peach blossoms," said a peach seller.
Colorful decorations are also sought after.
A traditional jam and dried fruit shop on Hang Duong street is packed with customers.
After shopping, people rush home to welcome the New Year, the year of the Dragon.
