Many subsidence points after heavy rain in Phieng Khoai

From September 27 to September 30, prolonged heavy rain affected many inter-village roads in Phieng Khoai commune, Son La province, and many subsidence points appeared, endangering people's lives and property.

Accordingly, at the household of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay (born in 1955, in Hang Mon 2 village), a sinkhole appeared about 10m deep, with a large crater of nearly 6m, posing many potential risks to the life and property of the household.

Faced with the above situation, the local Party Committee and authorities directed the Commune Police to concentrate forces, coordinate with the grassroots security team, Commune Military, and militia and self-defense forces of neighboring villages to promptly respond to property rescue and transport more than 100m3 of earth and rock into the pit. Up to now, the subsidence situation in the area has temporarily stabilized, with no loss of life or property.

By September 30, the subsidence area had been filled by the forces.

According to the Son La Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, it is forecasted that on September 30, the entire Son La province will continue to have very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 50-250mm, and over 300mm in some places. The Provincial Police Department has directed local police to respond urgently, be ready to evacuate people when necessary, make initial damage statistics, and have flood and storm prevention teams on duty 24/7.
