Many university presidents are candidates for Professor and Associate Professor in 2025

TPO - A series of university presidents in both the North and the South are on the list of candidates for the title of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025, showing that the trend of leadership associated with scientific research is increasingly clear.

The State Council of Professors has just announced a list of 933 candidates proposed for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor (GS) and associate professor (PGS) in 2025, including 89 GS candidates and 844 PGS candidates. Among them, there are at least 11 university presidents across the country.

According to experts, the fact that many university managers participate in the selection of professors and associate professors is a positive signal, because they not only run the school but also directly maintain international publications, creating academic influence for young lecturers.

Northern region

Associate Professor Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc - Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, candidate for Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Mr. Thuc was appointed Rector for the 2022-2026 term, after a long time serving as Vice Rector and Head of Training Department.

He has published 39 scientific articles, of which 22 are in prestigious international journals; has published 3 books, of which 3 are from prestigious publishers.

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi - Principal of the School of Business and Management (VNU Hanoi), a candidate for Professor in the field of economics with many studies on international business management and development. He was a lecturer, head of department and participated in building HSB to become an outstanding interdisciplinary training unit.

This candidate has published 44 scientific articles, including 9 scientific articles in prestigious international journals. In particular, he has been granted 10 patents and utility solutions.

Dr. Nguyen Van Khoat - Principal of Hanoi University of Procuracy, candidate for Associate Professor of Law, with works on procedural law and criminology.

Mr. Khoat has published 22 scientific articles, published 7 books, and guided 8 students to successfully defend their master's theses.

Associate Professor Dr. Ta Van Loi - Principal of the School of Business - National Economics University, candidate for Professor of International Business. Mr. Loi was appointed principal in July 2024 when the school was established under a new model. He was previously the Vice Principal and participated in many research projects on the business environment.

He has published 86 scientific articles, of which 20 are in prestigious international journals listed in ISI/Scopus; and has been granted 2 patents for inventions and utility solutions.

Dr. Le Thi Thuy - Principal of Danang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy, candidate for Associate Professor in Medicine and Pharmacy. She was recognized as Principal from December 2022, term 2020 - 2025, after serving as Vice Principal and directly teaching clinical.

Ms. Thuy has published 50 scientific articles, including 11 scientific articles in prestigious international journals.

Southern region

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Principal of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, candidate for Professor of Economics. Mr. Trung was born in 1979, has more than 90 scientific publications and many monographs, and was appointed principal from 2023.

Mr. Trung has guided 9 doctoral students to successfully defend their theses, published 91 scientific articles, including 18 scientific articles in prestigious international journals, and published 12 books.

Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President of Ton Duc Thang University, Associate Professor candidate in the field of electricity and electronics. Mr. Dao was born in 1981, currently owns more than 13 international articles in the past 18 months alone, and has held the position of president since 2021.

Dr. Lam Thanh Hien - Principal of Lac Hong University, candidate for Associate Professor in Information Technology. He was born in 1970 and was Vice Principal before being officially appointed Principal in 2021. In the first half of 2025 alone, he published 8 international articles.

Mr. Lam Thanh Hien has published 44 scientific articles, of which 13 are in prestigious international journals.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Van Huy - Principal of the University of Economics - University of Danang, candidate for Professor of Economics, was appointed principal from 2020. He has many works in the fields of digital marketing and information systems.

Dr. Phan Hong Hai - Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, candidate for Associate Professor in Economics and Finance. Mr. Hai was born in 1976, has held the position of rector since 2020, and continues to be trusted in the 2023 - 2028 term.

Mr. Hai has published 28 scientific articles and reports, including 9 articles in prestigious international journals; published 3 textbooks...

Dr. Pham Dinh Trung - Principal of Yersin University, Dalat, Associate Professor candidate in the field of mechanics - dynamics, has many studies applying artificial intelligence in design and manufacturing.

Mr. Trung has published 21 scientific articles, including 5 scientific articles in prestigious international journals; was granted 1 exclusive patent for a useful solution (Method of detecting defects in glass bottle bodies) by the Intellectual Property Office in June 2025.

According to the assessment, the large presence of rectors in the list of candidates for Professor and Associate Professor shows the connection between university administration and scientific research. This not only enhances academic prestige but also encourages the culture of international publication among the teaching staff.

The State Council of Professors is expected to complete the review and announce the official list of new professors and associate professors by the end of 2025.
