Starting from nothing, they overcame difficulties, became rich legitimately, and at the same time spread the spirit of sharing, contributing to promoting the movement of farmers competing in production and good business in the city.

Overcoming difficulties to become rich

Born and raised in a family with difficult circumstances, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong strived to become one of the best farmers and businessmen at the Central level. After a period of persistent learning through technical training courses, in 2009, Ms. Dong boldly opened an agency to supply animal feed and breeding animals, both to serve the people and to take advantage of surplus raw materials to develop animal husbandry. Since then, the livestock facility has gradually expanded, creating a foundation for her to develop a large-scale farm model as it is today.

To date, Ms. Dong owns a 50,000m2 production area, raising 6,000 pigs and 10,000 chickens each year. The entire breeding process applies modern technology combined with self-mixed feed from local agricultural products, helping to save costs and ensure quality. The model not only brings in great profits but also becomes a place for sightseeing and learning experiences for many farming households in the area.

Currently, Ms. Dong's facility provides regular and seasonal jobs for about 9-11 workers, with an average income of 10.5 million VND/month. Each year, her family contributes more than 100 million VND in taxes, making a positive contribution to the local budget.

Not only enriching her family, Ms. Dong also spreads the spirit of sharing in the community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, her family donated more than 200 million VND and many agricultural products to support people in the epidemic area. Every year, she also gives scholarships and Tet gifts to poor students and disadvantaged households in the area with a total value of more than 150 million VND.

“I simply think that I do well to stabilize my family, then develop with the people around me. Today's success is thanks to the support of the government, the Farmers' Association and the trust of the people. I will continue to expand the model, apply modern technology to raise livestock sustainably and bring greater value to the community,” Ms. Dong shared.

Spreading the spirit of social responsibility

Born into a farming family in Hiep Duc commune, farmer Pham Van Luan spent his childhood working on his parents' fields and small nursery garden. Graduated from Hue University of Economics , Mr. Luan tried his hand at many different jobs but his income was unstable. When he got married, he decided to return to the profession of growing seedlings. Collecting and borrowing 500 million VND, he and his wife started from scratch, renting land in Ba Vang commune to open a nursery. In 2015, he established Bac Trung Nam Seedling Company Limited.

Every year, Mr. Pham Van Luan supplies about 1 million seedlings to the market with a revenue of more than 12 billion VND. Photo: NQ

The first journey was more difficult than Mr. Luan expected, as the terrain was far from the center, few customers knew about it, and capital was gradually depleted. Not giving up, Mr. Luan decided to move the entire nursery to An Tan village (Hoa Vang commune). In that barren land, he rebuilt from scratch. There was a time when he had to fill a truck with seedlings and travel all over the Central Highlands to sell them.

That perseverance has paid off and gradually many customers know about it. From the initial few thousand trees, his nursery has now expanded to more than 15,000m2 , supplying about 1 million seedlings to the market each year with a revenue of more than 12 billion VND. Not only that, he also creates jobs for 10 regular workers with an income of 6-7 million VND/month and 40 seasonal workers.

In addition to economic development, Mr. Luan actively participates in social work, supports the locality in many social security activities, and holds the role of Head of the Association of Forestry and Medicinal Plant Production Professionals. With these efforts, in August 2025, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City for his achievements in the emulation movement for good production and business.

Mr. Luan shared: “Without my wife’s support and the trust of my fellow villagers, I probably wouldn’t have been able to stay in this profession. Starting a career in agriculture is not easy, but it is those difficulties that help me be more determined, so that today I can contribute to creating jobs, greening the land and protecting the forests for my homeland.”

Mr. Nguyen Ut, Vice Chairman of the City Farmers' Association, commented: "The entrepreneurial journey of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong and Mr. Pham Van Luan has demonstrated the determination and aspiration of the city's farmers. From nothing, they have built an effective production and business model, created stable jobs, and are willing to share and support the community, contributing to beautifying the image of farmers in the new era. This is a testament to the spirit of innovation and creativity that the association is encouraging."

In the coming time, Mr. Ut said, the City Farmers' Association will continue to replicate effective models, encourage members to apply modern technology in production. At the same time, the emulation movement will be linked with the new rural construction, aiming at developing green and sustainable agriculture.
