Dong Nai currently has 25 internet signal depressions, mainly in border areas, remote areas with very sparse population. To ensure the success of digital transformation, coverage in the signal depression areas is very important.
Bringing telecommunication waves to "troughs"
Previously, in Phuoc Tan hamlet, Dong Tam commune, the phone signal was very unstable, often weak, and communication was difficult. However, with the goal of covering 100% of the province, Viettel network has just completed additional BTS stations in this area to serve the needs of mobile telecommunications and broadband internet of the people. The phone signal coverage to all places, along with the high-speed 4G internet network, has helped improve people's lives.
Since the arrival of mobile phone signals, Mr. Le Van Teo, Dong Tam commune, as well as many people in the area, have purchased more modern electronic devices to serve their daily lives. Even when working on the farm dozens of kilometers away from home, Mr. Teo can still go online and call his family without any barriers.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has just issued a document requiring that by October 2025, it must ensure that areas with signal gaps are eliminated so that remote areas can access digital transformation. Therefore, the Department of Science and Technology of Dong Nai province is working with telecommunications enterprises in the province to review, re-measure and ensure coverage for areas with signal gaps according to the set roadmap, overcoming areas with weak mobile and internet signals in the province. The Department will advise the Provincial People's Committee to remove legal bottlenecks to help enterprises deploy quickly and eliminate areas with signal gaps in the province.

Previously, when Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, in Dong Tam commune, wanted to call his relatives to ask about them, he found it very difficult and inconvenient because the signal was unstable. "The BTS station of Viettel network was built right near his house, the mobile signal and internet are both very strong, not only convenient for communication but I also installed a surveillance camera system in my house, went online to read the news, access current information every day and easily learned experiences on the internet to develop the family economy" - Mr. Hai confided.
There are currently 25 hamlets and villages with signal depressions in Dong Nai province (18 hamlets and villages in the old Binh Phuoc province; 7 hamlets and villages in the old Dong Nai province). Signal depressions are mainly in areas with a cluster of residential areas consisting of several households living in a hamlet or village. In addition, Dong Nai has some mountainous, forested or uneven terrain areas, which obstruct and reduce signal signals. Some remote areas do not have grid electricity or have unstable power sources, making it difficult to operate BTS stations.
In addition to the State's investment resources, telecommunications enterprises play an important role in building a synchronous telecommunications infrastructure system. Recently, Viettel Military Telecommunications Group Dong Nai branch - the leading telecommunications infrastructure service provider in the province has devoted large resources to investing in building infrastructure, providing telecommunications and information technology services, developing digital infrastructure, improving telecommunications systems, fiber optic cables, broadband... to meet the task of building digital government from commune to province.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Tan, Director of Viettel Dong Nai, said: Every year, Viettel Dong Nai allocates additional capital to invest in developing more BTS stations in weak signal areas to ensure service quality for people and serve national defense and security. For remote areas, the process of building BTS stations also faces some difficulties in terms of land, construction licensing procedures, and unstable power grid... To eliminate signal depressions, close coordination from many parties is needed, in which the government needs to have specific incentive policies to support telecommunications enterprises to invest in infrastructure in signal depressions and difficult areas, helping people to use the best telecommunications services.
Promoting comprehensive digital transformation
With its resources and technological strengths, VNPT Dong Nai is actively investing, upgrading and expanding information and telecommunications infrastructure, especially in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas; at the same time, prioritizing the deployment of new technologies such as 5G, IoT, AI, big data in central areas and industrial parks to create breakthroughs in the fields of socio-economy, science - technology, national defense - security, serving well the management and information exchange of the government, people and businesses.

In the goal of covering mobile information along the border patrol route, Dong Nai is coordinating with telecommunications enterprises to build BTS mobile phone transmitting and receiving stations, fiber optic cable clusters across the entire area. Investing in building BTS mobile transmitting stations along with a wide-spread fiber optic cable system, 3G/4G mobile network covering 100% of villages and hamlets not only helps ensure national defense and security tasks but also serves public service tasks more effectively.
According to the plan, the Department of Science and Technology has advised on the development of a passive telecommunications infrastructure plan for the 2025-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, and a digital infrastructure development plan in Dong Nai province for the 2025-2030 period.
With the increasing demand for digitalization of people, organizations and businesses, the modernization of telecommunications infrastructure will be an important foundation to promote digital transformation, helping the province conquer challenges in the journey of building digital government, digital economy, digital society and successfully implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation by 2030.
