Gia Hanh women spread the model "Healthy, smoke-free family"

These days, taking advantage of the afternoon and evening hours, members of the "Healthy, Smoke-Free Family" Club in Binh Son village (Gia Hanh commune) meet together to discuss and develop a plan to propagate the prevention of the harmful effects of tobacco.

Club members participate in activities and develop plans to promote tobacco prevention.

In addition to this content, the Club also integrates sharing experiences in health care, child rearing, building happy families, etc. Thanks to that, it creates solidarity among members and sustainable influence in the community.

Ms. Duong Thi Luyen - Head of the Women's Union of Binh Son village, Club Manager said: "The Club was established under the direction of the Women's Union of Can Loc district (old) at the end of November 2021, with 55 members. This is a place to share knowledge about the harmful effects of tobacco, promote changes in people's awareness and behavior in protecting their own health and the community. At the same time, we have integrated activities of building new rural areas, environmental sanitation, women helping each other... to create cohesion among members of the Club".

After nearly 4 years of operation, the model has shown clear effectiveness. The active participation of members has encouraged many people to quit smoking. From the initial members, the club has now grown to 65 members, including many couples participating in the activities.

Thanks to the women's advocacy, many people in the village have quit smoking.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam - an active member of the Club shared: "My husband has been a smoker for many years, and it is very difficult to persuade him. However, since joining the Club, I have been equipped with knowledge and propaganda skills, so I have been persistent in persuading him in the style of "slow and steady wins the race". Up to now, he has quit smoking and his health has been improving day by day."

From the effective operation of the model “Healthy, smoke-free family” in Binh Son village, it has spread to many villages in the commune. Although the club has not been officially established, the women's associations have actively integrated anti-tobacco propaganda into their regular activities, contributing to raising awareness among members and people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien - Vice President of Gia Hanh Commune Women's Union shared: "Following the direction of the superior association, in recent times, the building of healthy, smoke-free families has been flexibly integrated into the activity programs by the branches, contributing to creating a widespread influence. At the same time, the innovation of activities in many diverse forms such as: supporting members in difficulty, mobilizing to build "5 no, 3 clean" families, organizing environmental sanitation activities, maintaining folk dance movements, sports ... not only improves the effectiveness of the association's work but also contributes to strengthening the relationship between villagers and neighbors, enriching spiritual life, building a united and civilized community".

From the effectiveness of the first club model, the movement “Healthy, smoke-free family” in Gia Hanh is gradually spreading widely, contributing to changing awareness and protecting community health. This is not only a solution to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco, but also an important criterion in building a cultural family, a model residential area and a sustainable new countryside.
