Coffee shop in Hanoi opens all night on September 2nd, customers pay millions to reserve seats

(Dan Tri) - Many coffee shops in prime locations in Hanoi to watch the September 2nd parade were fully booked a week ago. Families and groups of friends were willing to spend a lot of money to get good seats.

According to a survey by Dan Tri reporters, along the streets where the parade passed, many shops adjusted their opening and closing hours to serve customers all night long.

Normally only open until 10:30 PM, Tiny Coffee (Nguyen Tri Phuong) decided to operate all night on September 1. The shop can accommodate 50-70 guests, without increasing prices or charging a table reservation fee.

"There were a few years when we opened during Tet, no price increase, no surcharge, and this time we chose to do the same, no price increase, no surcharge, no table reservations. We chose to accept all customers who come to our restaurant, sit as they are, share the space together, and celebrate National Day September 2nd together," said a staff member at the restaurant.

Many large cafes have also changed their operating schedules. Laika Cafe (Thanh Nien) opened at 3am on August 30 and September 2, offering free flag-printed cups, conical hats, and stickers to customers. Kalina Cafe (Ba Trieu) also opened all night on September 1 and added late-night snacks for customers.

Nyna Coffee (Nguyen Hong) said that despite the extended opening hours, the shop does not charge extra fees or increase prices, only charging a fee for customers who leave their items overnight. Staff here said that many tables have been booked a week in advance by customers to stay overnight.

Meanwhile, Garden Coffee (Lieu Giai) publicly announced a deposit of 200,000 VND/person from the preliminary rehearsal to the final rehearsal, and on September 2nd it increased to 280,000 VND/person, including a drink. The shop requires customers to transfer a 100% deposit to reserve a table.

Essence Cafe (Ngo Quyen) also said that instead of closing at 11pm, on September 2nd the shop will stay open until all customers are gone. In addition, the shop also sells nice seats on the 2nd, 4th and 5th floor terraces with panoramic views of the parade for 250,000 VND/person.

Mai Khoi Tea Shop (Ngo Quyen) also decided to stay open overnight instead of 8am-11pm as usual to serve customers during the rehearsal. The Sipping Bar, located in Thong Nhat Park, announced on September 2 that it would charge a service fee of VND100,000/person after 5pm.

In the Nguyen Thai Hoc and Lieu Giai areas, many shops also list a deposit of 200,000-300,000 VND/person with a drink.

Mr. Dung (Thanh Xuan) booked a table at a coffee shop near Hoan Kiem Lake 2 weeks ago. “It only happens once every few years, expensive or cheap doesn’t matter. I’m willing to spend more than 1 million VND to reserve a seat for the whole family to enjoy the big day,” he said.

Mr. Dung said that restaurants near Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter often sell combo drinks with snacks for between VND300,000 and VND1 million per person, depending on the seating position. Customers often have to deposit 50-100% of the total bill, and some places only hold seats for a certain period of time, and if they exceed that time, they will lose both the deposit and the seat.

A representative of a coffee shop on Dien Bien Phu Street said all seats were booked from the preliminary and final rehearsal days, and the main holiday of September 2nd was also fully booked more than a week ago.
