(PLVN) - The Traffic Police Department said that after the arrangement of provincial administrative units according to the National Assembly's Resolution, local vehicle license plates will remain the same as before the merger. People are not required to change their vehicle license plates if their vehicles were registered validly before July 1, 2025.

The Traffic Police Department has just released information on vehicle registration and license plate issuance after the province merger.

According to the Traffic Police Department, implementing the National Assembly 's Resolution on the arrangement of provincial administrative units in 2025, vehicle registration and license plate issuance will be carried out in the direction that local license plates will remain the same. For merged localities, the license plates will be the local license plates before the merger.

Vehicle registration certificates and license plates issued before July 1, 2025 will continue to be used.

Organizations and individuals are allowed to register their vehicles at the commune-level police station in the province or city where the vehicle owner resides or has his/her headquarters.

According to Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security issued on November 15, 2024, effective from January 1, 2025, from July 1, 2025, vehicle registration and license plate issuance will be carried out according to the area code of the new province after the merger.

However, for vehicles registered before this time, the vehicle owner is not required to change the license plate. The documents and license plates issued before the merger will remain legally valid and will continue to be used normally until they expire or there is another reason to change. Thus, people are not required to change the license plate after the administrative unit arrangement if the vehicle is still validly registered.
