9th grade students of Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1, HCMC)
Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that basically the 10th grade exam in 2024 will remain stable similar to that in 2023.
Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam will take place in the first week of June 2024, after 9th grade students finish the 2023-2024 school year at the end of May 2024. Candidates will take the exam in 3 compulsory subjects: literature, foreign language, math (if registering for regular 10th grade) and specialized and integrated subjects (if registering for specialized 10th grade or integrated 10th grade).
According to Mr. Quoc, the exams are mainly written in essay format, with the foreign language subject combining essay and some multiple choice questions with 4 options. Candidates will take the exam in 3 essay subjects: math, literature and foreign language. Candidates will take the exam in 2 days. The exam duration for math and literature is 120 minutes/subject, foreign language is 90 minutes, and specialized and integrated subjects is 150 minutes/subject.
Regarding the requirements for the 10th grade exam, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc said that the exam content will be within the secondary school curriculum, mainly for the 9th grade. The requirements in the exam will ensure differentiation of students' abilities and levels and be consistent with the time allotted for each exam subject.
"According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the 10th grade exam in 2024 will continue to implement the policy of increasing questions requiring candidates to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve real-life situations; the exam does not only stop at testing students' subject knowledge but also focuses on testing students' application, reading comprehension, and logical thinking abilities," the leader of the Department of Education and Training emphasized.
