Dong Thap Trade: Accelerating digitalization, expanding value chains

(Chinhphu.vn) - Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Plan to implement the Strategy "Domestic Trade Development for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2045" (Plan) in the province.

Dong Thap accelerates trade development to 2045

The strategy "Domestic trade development until 2030, vision to 2045" is considered an important orientation to effectively exploit local potential and advantages, while creating momentum to promote production and business, expand consumption markets, and contribute to sustainable economic development.

One of the key tasks of the Plan is to widely disseminate Decision No. 1163/QD-TTg dated July 13, 2021 of the Prime Minister to all cadres, civil servants, public employees, enterprises and cooperatives. Thereby, units, organizations and individuals will grasp the viewpoints, goals, orientations as well as tasks and solutions identified in the Strategy, ensuring synchronous, unified and effective implementation in the province.

Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Finance, relevant departments and branches and People's Committees of communes and wards to review and propose to perfect regulations on management of goods circulating in the market.

The province also focuses on maintaining and supporting the formation of vertical and horizontal linkage chains, connecting producers, distributors, and service providers, creating sustainable value chains for a number of key product and commodity groups. At the same time, the province encourages innovation in business methods and consumption of agricultural products in the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, to enhance the value and competitiveness of products.

Dong Thap aims to strongly promote e-commerce. The Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and other departments, branches and localities to increase the application of digital technology in distribution activities, support businesses to expand their markets, and bring goods closer to domestic consumers. At the same time, the province will maintain and upgrade the Dong Thap e-commerce platform, turning it into a modern, transparent and effective trade channel.

With specific orientations and solutions, the Plan is expected to create a breakthrough in domestic trade development, both maximizing local advantages and meeting integration requirements and new consumption trends. This is also an important foundation for Dong Thap trade to develop sustainably, associated with the province's long-term socio-economic development goals.

Speaking with the Government Electronic Newspaper, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang emphasized: The main orientation for trade development in the period up to 2045 is to continue improving the investment and business environment in the province; consolidate and establish market order adapting to the new context and situation, gradually develop trade stably and sustainably, maintain a trade growth rate higher than the GDP growth rate; gradually increase the contribution of the trade sector to the service sector and GDP of the province.

Mr. Quang also said that Dong Thap will develop diverse methods and forms of commercial business organization; effectively operate the supply and distribution system of key commodity groups; develop large enterprises in the province that are capable of leading the market, creating spillover effects for satellite enterprises. At the same time, restructure the trade sector towards innovation, digitalization and technology of business methods; strengthen connectivity, participate in supply chains, value chains, global and regional ecosystems.

Complete modern and synchronous commercial infrastructure

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, e-commerce development will become the main form, perfecting the legal infrastructure to effectively exploit the digitalization trend with the development of electronic payment methods and new, non-cash payment tools; increasing investment in technology development, infrastructure connection, and investment in information technology to ensure safety and convenience for consumers when participating in e-commerce transactions.

Mr. Quang further emphasized: It is necessary to promote the construction and development of synchronous, modern, sustainable trade infrastructure in the province, suitable to the nature and development level of the market in each locality and each stage, meeting the needs of goods circulation and supporting exports; prioritizing types of trade infrastructure that have spillover effects and significant impacts in supporting production and circulation.

In particular, the province focuses on investing in developing commercial infrastructure in rural areas, focusing on forming a complete and highly connected logistics center system, serving as a driving force for the supply chains of the province and the region.
