The global smartphone market fell 1% in the third quarter.

Of which, Samsung continued to maintain its leading position in the industry when it shipped 58.6 million devices, accounting for 20% market share.

Coming in second is Apple with a 17% market share. The US tech giant shipped more than 50 million devices in the third quarter. This success was mainly due to strong demand from users for the iPhone 15 smartphone product.

Third place belongs to Xiaomi with 41.5 million devices shipped, up 2% compared to the same period in 2022. The following positions belong to Oppo (including OnePlus) with 9% market share and Transsion Group (including Infinix, Tecno and iTel) with 9% market share.

“The demand for smartphones in emerging markets is driving sales during the holiday shopping season. Xiaomi and Transsion Group had a strong quarter in the mid-range and low-end segments in African and Middle Eastern markets,” said Sanyam Chaurasia, an analyst at Canalys.

According to forecasts from some experts, the global smartphone market will grow slightly in 2024.

"Smartphone makers will end 2023 with more stable inventory levels. However, geopolitical uncertainties will affect business in many regions.

In addition, the smartphone upgrade cycle is also longer than before. This is a big challenge for manufacturers when they have to focus on improving production capacity as well as optimizing product portfolio," Zhong commented.
