Festivals in the period 2024-2026 aim to continue promoting and preserving the traditional cultural identity of ethnic people in Lao Cai province.

Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has just issued Document No. 322/KH-UBND dated July 15, 2024 on the Plan to organize festival activities in the province for the period 2024-2026.
Accordingly, in the period of 2024 - 2026, Lao Cai province will organize 33 festivals. Of which, there are 4 provincial-level festivals, including: 2 cultural festivals, 2 historical-cultural relic festivals; there are 29 district-level festivals, including: 5 folk festivals, 11 cultural festivals, 13 historical-cultural relic festivals.
The four provincial festivals are: Thuong Temple Festival, Bao Ha Temple Festival, Bac Ha White Plateau Festival - Summer "Highland Horse Hoof", Sa Pa Summer Festival - "Sa Pa land of love".
The Thuong Temple Festival is held in January (Lunar calendar) at the Thuong Temple Area, Lao Cai Ward, Lao Cai City. The Thuong Temple was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1996. The Thuong Temple Festival contributes to honoring and commemorating the National Duke - Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan. The festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2016.
Bao Ha Temple Festival is held in July (Lunar calendar) at Bao Ha Temple, Bao Ha Commune, Bao Yen District. Bao Ha Temple was ranked as a National Historical - Cultural Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1997; Bao Ha Temple Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2016. The organization of Bao Ha Temple Festival contributes to honoring and commemorating the famous general Hoang Bay who fought against the invaders in the border area, and was awarded the title of National Guardian God by the Nguyen Dynasty kings.
The Bac Ha White Plateau Festival - Summer "Highland Horse Hoof" is held in the second quarter of each year (focusing on June 1-9, 2024) in Bac Ha town. The Bac Ha White Plateau Festival is a famous tourism product of Bac Ha district, held since 2019, in which the "Highland Horse Hoof" Horse Racing Festival is a special highlight attracting a large number of people and tourists. The Bac Ha Horse Racing Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021.
Sa Pa Summer Festival - "Sa Pa land of love" is held in the second quarter of every year (April 30 - May 1 holiday until the end of summer) in communes and wards in Sa Pa town. Sa Pa is a famous tourist destination domestically and internationally, known as "Summer resort paradise". With a mild, cool climate, summer is the time that attracts many tourists to Sa Pa to escape the heat and relax. Sa Pa Summer Festival - "Sa Pa land of love" is an important activity held from 2021, contributing to promoting the image of tourism, preserving and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities in the area.

Bao Yen district has the most festivals among the remaining districts and towns, with 6 festivals held from January to October every year. Muong Khuong district has the least festivals, with 1 festival.
The determination to organize 33 festivals from provincial to district level in the period from now to 2026 in Lao Cai province aims to continue promoting and preserving the traditional cultural identity of ethnic people in the province in organizing and managing festivals, affirming the important role of festivals in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
Build the festival into a unique product, a highlight in tourism development to promote and introduce the culture, people as well as the strong products of Lao Cai province to domestic and foreign tourists. Create a basis for evaluating and proposing the construction of typical festivals with the characteristics of the province for selection, investment and exploitation.
