" There is only one task, which is to ensure the deployment of Oreshnik missiles on our territory and plan their use," said Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko.

When asked how many such systems were planned to be delivered to Belarus, Pavel Muraveiko said " only the Russian President knows about this".

President Vladimir Putin said on December 6 that Russia could deploy its new Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic missile on the territory of ally Belarus in the second half of 2025.

" Today we have signed an agreement on ensuring security with all available forces and means, so I consider it feasible to deploy systems such as Oreshnik on the territory of Belarus," Vladimir Putin said.

The Russian president added that the deployment comes as serial production of the Oreshnik increases and the missile enters service with Russia's strategic forces.

From available information, military experts believe that Oreshnik has an effective range of more than 5,500 km and it is still listed as a medium-range ballistic missile.

Regarding the Oreshnik's attack capabilities, the system can be deployed anywhere if it uses a mobile launcher based on the RS-26 mobile intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) platform.

If placed in northwestern Russia, such as Murmansk and Kaliningrad, the Oreshnik missile could strike most NATO military bases in Europe. All European countries from Poland, the Baltics, Portugal to the UK would be within range of the Oreshnik.

According to the Military Chronicle, with the use of solid-fuel propulsion, Oreshnik only takes 19 minutes to reach the UK, 11 minutes to reach Germany and 8 minutes to reach Poland. The Oreshnik missile is likely equipped with 3 to 6 nuclear or conventional warheads.
