Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder recently affirmed that the US is fully aware of and is closely consulting with allies in the region regarding North Korea's test of a new type of medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile using solid fuel on April 2.

In response to concerns about military cooperation between North Korea, Russia and China, spokesman Ryder said that the decision to cooperate with anyone is up to a sovereign nation.

However, it would be a problem if Washington discovered activities such as Pyongyang providing capabilities for Moscow to use in the conflict in Ukraine. In that case, the US would continue to monitor these activities.

Pentagon officials affirmed that the US will continue to focus on cooperation with allies and partners to ensure security and stability in the region.

Previously, the Korean Central News Agency ( KCNA ) reported that on April 2, the country successfully test-launched a new generation of medium-range hypersonic missiles with military strategic value. The test-launch took place under the direct guidance of leader Kim Jong-un.

According to KCNA , the missile test marked the first time North Korea launched a new type of medium-range solid-fuel ballistic missile called Hwasongpho-16B, equipped with a newly developed hypersonic glide warhead.

The missile was launched northeast from a military unit's training area on the outskirts of the capital Pyongyang.

After being launched, the hypersonic warhead separated from the missile and reached an altitude of 101.1km first and 72.3km second while flying on a planned 1,000km trajectory and accurately fell into the East Sea off the Korean Peninsula.

KCNA said the missile test did not adversely affect the security of neighboring countries.
