University returns 21 billion VND wrongly collected from former students

(Dan Tri) - Thu Dau Mot University has refunded 21 billion VND in tuition fee difference to students. The school is urgently reviewing and verifying the remaining amount to be returned to students.

On January 24, NVT, a student at Thu Dau Mot University, said he was very surprised when his account received an amount of more than 3 million VND with the content that Thu Dau Mot University refunded tuition fees for full-time students according to the announcement of the State Audit, refunding the excess budget payment.

On the morning of January 24, speaking with Dan Tri reporters, the leaders of Thu Dau Mot University said that up to now, the school has completed the procedures and determined the list of more than 10,000 students, and the school has also transferred money into the students' accounts. The total amount of money refunded to students is 21 billion VND and is continuing to be transferred.

Refunding tuition fees to students takes a lot of time because it requires checking and comparing the list and account numbers of students. In addition, the school needs time to carry out the procedures and refund process in accordance with the State's regulations.

"This is the reason why the school has only now transferred the money back to the students. The school has made great efforts to transfer the money to the students before Tet," said the leader of Thu Dau Mot University.

As Dan Tri reported, previously, the state audit conducted an audit at Thu Dau Mot University in the 2015-2021 period and discovered that Thu Dau Mot University illegally collected more than 37 billion VND.

Immediately after the state audit announced its conclusion, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province directed Thu Dau Mot University to refund the students (if unable to refund, it must pay to the budget) the tuition fees collected in excess of the prescribed level. After that, the school paid the entire amount of illegally collected money to the state budget.

In addition, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province also requested to consider handling collective and individual responsibilities (if any) of Thu Dau Mot University for collecting tuition fees for regular university programs, university programs using the continuing education method, master's and doctoral training programs in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years higher than the prescribed ceiling.
