According to Reuters news agency, in a television interview, Foreign Minister Sybiha stated: “We discussed topics such as long-range strikes and Euro-Atlantic integration. And here, we are also cautiously optimistic.”

According to him, the talks with his counterpart Blinken in Brussels also mentioned military aid: “We have a clear picture – timeframe and volume – of what will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of this year. This development helps us plan our actions strategically on the battlefield.”

Washington's assistance program for Kiev will include weapons and funding for arms production deals.

Ukraine has long been lobbying its Western allies to allow long-range strikes on military targets inside Russia, as well as pushing for an invitation to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

However, Kiev's allies, including Washington, are reluctant to allow long-range strikes for fear of further escalation of the conflict, while some oppose the idea of inviting Ukraine to join NATO.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers took place at a time of great turmoil, just one week after Donald Trump won the US presidential election. Trump has long criticized the scale of US financial and military aid to Ukraine, and has declared that he will quickly end the Russia-Ukraine war but has not explained how to do so.

On the same day, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that his country will continue to support Ukraine's fight against Russia, stating: "We have a responsibility to ensure that Kiev will not be left alone. They can count on our country and our unity."
