To achieve the above objectives, Van Don has focused on strengthening the leadership and direction of all levels in developing ports and port services in a sustainable manner, associated with environmental protection, ensuring national defense and security of the sea and islands, in accordance with the overall socio -economic development plan approved by all levels. At the same time, the locality has also focused on propaganda and raising awareness for the staff and civil servants in state management of the seaport sector, in order to create unity in directing and implementing action programs.
Implementing Resolution No. 15-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee, in Van Don special economic zone, many important port projects have been invested and put into use. A typical example is Ao Tien International Port, a project worth 613 billion VND, which was officially put into use from March 2023 with a designed capacity of 3.2 million passengers/year by 2025.
In addition, the regional storm shelter and the first-class fishing port were also completed in May 2022, making an important contribution to ensuring the safety of ships and developing fisheries. The ports of Ban Sen, Ngoc Vung, Thang Loi, Quan Lan, and Minh Chau were upgraded, renovated, and supplemented with infrastructure, improving service capacity, creating a new look for Van Don's waterway transport system.
Mr. Dao Van Vu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Don Special Economic Zone, shared: One of the current development priorities of the locality is to build an international passenger port. This will be the nucleus for the formation of high-quality, international-level services, such as shopping centers, duty-free zones, high-end dining and entertainment services. When the international passenger port is completed, Van Don Special Economic Zone will have a major breakthrough in welcoming tourists , promoting trade and increasing the value of the marine economy.
Up to now, Van Don has included in its medium-term plan many important projects such as expanding and upgrading Hon Hai and Minh Chau wharves... At the same time, it has attracted investment in large-scale projects, such as: Van Don International Port in Bac Cai Bau subdivision, expanding Ngoc Vung tourist port, Cai Rong tourist port, Dong Ho port on Quan Lan island... These projects, when completed, will create a synchronous and modern network of ports, meeting the needs of developing the local multi-sector marine economy.
Not only focusing on infrastructure investment, Van Don special economic zone also pays special attention to state management in construction, business of seaport infrastructure and seaport services. Van Don gradually concretizes the port system in the zoning plans, updates the land use plans, and proposes existing and new routes and flows into the Provincial Planning that has been implemented synchronously, in order to create a tight legal corridor, favorable for the process of calling for and attracting investment.
Along with infrastructure development, Van Don also promotes the promotion of seaport brands and seaport services. Accordingly, passenger ports such as Ao Tien and Cai Rong are included in trade promotion programs and promoted at conferences and seminars at home and abroad. Communication activities on the electronic information portal and fanpage of DDCI Van Don are also strongly implemented, contributing to enhancing the image and reputation of the local seaport system in the eyes of investors, tourists and international partners.
With the right orientation and drastic steps, Van Don is day by day affirming its role as a multi-industry marine economic zone, converging full potential to develop into a green, modern, smart coastal city.
