This morning (October 16), speaking with VietNamNet reporters , a media representative of Thu Dau Mot University ( Binh Duong ) said that regarding the information about submitting 37 billion VND to the State budget for incorrectly collected student tuition fees that caused a stir, the school will have a press release to explain.
Previously, Thu Dau Mot University had paid 37 billion VND to the State budget. This is the amount determined by the State Audit because the school collected tuition fees exceeding the prescribed level for students in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years (about 1.5 times higher).
With this wrongly collected amount, the State Audit requested the school to refund the students. If it cannot refund, it must pay it to the State budget.
After the audit conclusion, Thu Dau Mot University decided to choose the option of submitting it back to the budget.
Explaining the reason for collecting tuition fees exceeding the prescribed level, a school leader said that the reason was due to the lack of consensus in understanding and applying the State regulations in calculating tuition fees for credits. After calculating the actual training program, the school decided to collect a fee 1.5 times higher.
Regarding not refunding the wrongly collected money to students but paying it into the budget, according to this school, the refund will be difficult because many students have graduated. Therefore, the school decided to pay the entire amount into the budget.
The Ministry of Education and Training stated the reason for proposing to exempt tuition fees for teachers' children even when the salary is not low.
