After intensive treatment, the 45-year-old man was one of three adults with botulinum poisoning who died.
On the morning of May 25, according to a private source from Gia Dinh People's Hospital (HCMC), a 45-year-old man (residing in Thu Duc City) (one of three adult patients with botulinum poisoning due to eating pork roll) died after intensive treatment.
Accordingly, on May 15, this man went to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for emergency care after eating a type of fish sauce that had been left for a long time.
The patient was tested for PCR at the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and was diagnosed with botulinum poisoning. The patient received intensive treatment but had serious complications, multiple organ failure, cardiac arrest and did not survive.
Notably, last night (May 24), 6 vials of Botulinum Antitoxin Heptavalent sent from the World Health Organization (WHO) warehouse in Switzerland arrived in Ho Chi Minh City.
This medicine was distributed to 3 hospitals. Cho Ray Hospital, where 2 cases of botulinum poisoning requiring ventilators were being treated, received 2 bottles; Nhan Dan Gia Dinh received 1 bottle, and Nhi Dong 2 Hospital received 3 bottles.
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, previously, the Thu Duc City Health Department said that after receiving information about people being poisoned by botulinum due to eating pork roll from a street vendor, the authorities inspected and requested this pork roll production facility to close and stop operations immediately.
All three patients were exposed to suspected contaminated food on May 13. Among them, two brothers (18 and 26 years old) ate bread with street-sold pork sausage (treated at Cho Ray Hospital) and a 45-year-old man ate a type of fish sauce that had been stored for a long time (treated at Gia Dinh People's Hospital).
