At 5:00 a.m. on August 9, Gia Lam Airport (Hanoi) was "awakened" by the sound of engines of transport planes belonging to the 918th Air Brigade (Air Defense - Air Force, Ministry of National Defense ). Engineers, aviation technicians and flight crews carefully prepared for the inspection for the flight practice session in the capital's sky.

This is the first time in 40 years that the Vietnam Air Force's transport aircraft formation has performed in the sky over Hanoi on the occasion of National Day, September 2, marking a great step forward in training and combat readiness of the air force.

At about 5:30 a.m., the pilots received the aircraft from the technical team and prepared to take off to practice flight demonstrations.

The "workhorse" CASA C-295 number 8902 was the first plane to move out of the assembly position to the runway. The plane had been repainted, completely different from the paint color it had appeared in previous training sessions.

This is also the first time the "workhorse" CASA C-295 appeared at the National Day flying event.

The CASA C-295 is the largest and most modern transport aircraft of the Vietnam Air Force at the present time. This is a 2-engine tactical military transport aircraft, manufactured by Airbus Military, headquartered in Spain. The first C-295 model flew in 1997 and was offered for sale in 2001. The CASA C-295 has a maximum speed of up to 454 km/h, a length of 24,495 m, can carry a maximum of 23.2 tons and transport 71 people.

After the CASA C-295 took off, three C-212 aircraft also left the runway one after another. The C-212 is a medium-sized transport aircraft that can be equipped with weapons to patrol borders and coastlines.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Hoang, pilot, Squadron Leader of Squadron 2 of C-212 aircraft, Air Brigade 918, assessed that the flight on the morning of August 9 was in quite good weather conditions, so the difficulty and hardship were a little less than the previous days. Thereby, the flight training of 4 aircraft was completed very well.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Hoang, as soon as the training plan for the A80 mission was received, the entire squadron and brigade quickly deployed preparations, coordinated closely and began serious training. Up to now, the unit has flown 13 groups, and basically had no difficulties during the training process. "The biggest obstacle is still the meteorological problem. If the meteorological conditions are complicated, it will cause difficulties in the process of flying and performing the formation," said Lieutenant Colonel Hoang, adding that he and his teammates will try their best because participating in the A80 mission is a great honor for the soldiers.
