Exports create momentum for growth

Vietnam strives for economic growth of 8.3% or more by 2025, with double-digit growth for localities. This is a very important and difficult task, requiring great efforts from the State and the business community.

The good news is that in the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam's import and export activities recorded impressive results, showing a strong recovery of the economy in the context of many fluctuations in the world.

Creating momentum for economic growth

According to the announcement of the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's goods export turnover in August 2025 reached nearly 43.4 billion USD, up 2.6% over the previous month and up 14.5% over the same period in 2024. In the first 8 months of 2025, the total export turnover reached nearly 306 billion USD, up 14.8% over the same period in 2024. On the contrary, goods import reached nearly 292 billion USD in the past 8 months; thus, the whole country had a trade surplus of nearly 14 billion USD.

The country's processed industrial products group contributed greatly to export value, reaching more than 271 billion USD out of a total of 306 billion USD in exports in the first 8 months of 2025.

In Dong Nai province, recently, the province's import and export activities have continued to maintain a positive growth momentum. According to Dong Nai Provincial Statistics, the province's export turnover in August reached more than 3.3 billion USD; the total for the first 8 months of 2025 reached more than 22.8 billion USD, an increase of 18.7% over the same period. Exports continued to record growth in many key commodities. Many commodity groups achieved high turnover with strong growth rates over the same period, notably: rubber increased by 125.5%; computers, electronic products and components by 72.3%; cashew nuts by 66.2%; wood and wood products by 40.2%; coffee by 34.2%...

According to Cao Dang Vien, Chief of Statistics of Dong Nai Province, expanding and diversifying export markets is identified as a key solution, contributing to promoting the province's economic growth. The balance of import and export in the past 8 months had a trade surplus of 6.5 billion USD, showing that despite having to cope with unpredictable fluctuations in the world economic situation and supply chain disruptions, export prospects are still positive. It is important that businesses proactively grasp the situation and have flexible solutions to limit negative impacts on production and business activities.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the situation in the coming time will still face many difficulties and complications, but the indicators of domestic production, industrial development, consumption, and export will still maintain growth momentum. The Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that in the coming time, exports will continue to overcome challenges and reach new milestones to create momentum for economic growth.

Deeper participation in the global supply chain

In early September 2025, at the event Connecting the International Supply Chain (Viet Nam International Sourcing 2025), 450 purchasing delegations from 60 countries and territories came to Vietnam to find sources of goods. The delegations came from traditional markets such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea and also emerging potential regions such as the Middle East, Latin America and Eastern European countries.

Within the framework of the event, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized the Export Forum 2025. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang assessed: Vietnam's exports to markets with free trade agreements (FTAs) have recovered positively. New generation FTAs such as CPTPP, EVFTA and UKVFTA, along with a series of bilateral and multilateral FTAs that Vietnam has signed and implemented before, have created a large market network, becoming a driving force for Vietnamese businesses and industries to boldly step out into the world.

It is important that Vietnam has transformed from a pure processing facility to a product development partner and co-creator with global brands. Many corporations, retail/wholesale distribution channels, and e-commerce platforms are promoting diversification strategies, ensuring sustainable supply sources, and have chosen Vietnam as a strategic location in their global supply chains.

According to economic experts, if Vietnam takes advantage of opportunities from free trade agreements, promotes supporting industries and increases added value, it can completely continue to maintain positive momentum for 2025 and the following years.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is also implementing the Project “Promoting Vietnamese enterprises to directly participate in foreign distribution networks by 2030”. This will help strengthen the connection between Vietnamese enterprises and international distribution channels and importers, thereby supporting enterprises to participate more deeply in the global supply chain and adapt to market fluctuations.

For businesses, according to Vice President of Dong Nai Import-Export Association Nguyen Duy Hung, businesses have more and more opportunities to participate more deeply in the global supply chain as the openness of Vietnam's economy to the world is increasing. In addition to efforts and proactively seizing opportunities, what businesses want is for the State to create favorable conditions for accessing market information and policies from countries around the world. In addition, it is necessary to organize programs, events, and bridges for Vietnamese businesses to connect directly with importers quickly and conveniently.
