The French Information Security Agency has confirmed that Apple has issued a new series of security alerts related to a sophisticated spyware campaign. This is the fourth time in 2025 that Apple has sent notifications to individuals identified as targets of cyberattacks.
Latest warning from Apple
According to information, on September 3, 2025, Apple sent a warning to French citizens, following three previous waves on March 5, April 29 and June 25. These warnings are usually sent to individuals at high risk of being monitored, including journalists, lawyers, social activists, politicians , high-ranking officials or members of organizations with strategic roles.
Apple said receiving the notification means at least one device tied to the user's iCloud account has been targeted and potentially compromised.
The danger of sophisticated spy tools
In the report, the French security agency stressed that the spyware is often related to well-known tools such as Pegasus, Predator, Graphite or Triangulation. These are all specially designed, sophisticated tools that are difficult to detect and are usually only used in targeted attack campaigns.
These types of attacks are not random but target individuals with influence or holding important positions in society, with the goal of collecting sensitive information or causing political impact.
Instructions for alert recipients
Authorities recommend that people who have received notices from Apple should:
Contact CERT-FR immediately for technical support and troubleshooting instructions.
Keep the warning email sent by Apple as is, do not delete or edit it.
Avoid making changes to the device (do not factory reset, delete apps, update, or restart), as these actions may compromise the investigation.
In addition, users also need to apply basic security measures when using mobile devices:
Do not access suspicious links.
Use strong and different passwords for each service.
Always enable two-factor authentication (2FA) when possible.
The culprit behind it is unknown.
At present, there is no official information about the group or organization behind this spyware campaign. At the same time, the scope of influence outside of France has not been confirmed.
However, the fact that Apple has continuously issued warnings within just a few months shows that cyberattack campaigns using spyware are on the rise in both quantity and danger level. This poses an urgent need to raise awareness and equip cybersecurity knowledge for individual users as well as organizations.
