According to 9to5Mac , the Apple Watch's fall detection feature helped save the life of a man in Georgia (USA). The man named Mike Menand was hiking in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area when his two dogs spotted a coyote in the distance and became frightened. They then suddenly ran away, causing him to fall and drag him along the road.

This immediately triggered the fall detection feature on his Apple Watch, which called emergency services. “I couldn’t even use my phone because it was in my pocket and I was lying on top of it,” Menand said. He broke his leg in the accident and had to undergo surgery to have a titanium rod inserted.
Menand said he doesn't know what would have happened if he hadn't been wearing his Apple Watch that day. Just a month after Menand's accident, another woman fell while hiking in the same recreation area and died. "When I read the news, I thought it could have been me," he said. "Because when I had the accident, I was alone, there was no one around, and no one really knew where I was."
The Apple Watch's fall detection feature works by using sensors to sense activities that are likely to be a fall, then automatically calling emergency services if the owner doesn't turn off the alert within a minute of the fall. The services will receive a text message notification and the person's location.
