The organization of teaching and learning Khmer for children of ethnic minorities is considered a special policy of Ca Mau province (old); in recent years it has always been maintained and implemented well. Every year, the Provincial People's Committee allocates funds to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Education and Training, People's Committees of communes and related agencies and units to organize 23 Khmer teaching and learning points during the summer at pagodas, salatels and places with a large population of Khmer people , with an average of about 30 classes and over 600 students participating in the study each year.
This summer, in the communes of Ho Thi Ky, Tri Phai, Tan Loc, and Thoi Binh, there are 7 Khmer classes with nearly 200 students participating.
Rewarding students with good academic performance in summer Khmer classes.
Ho Thi Ky commune alone organized 2 teaching locations with 3 teachers, attracting nearly 100 students to participate. After 2 months of implementation, the Khmer summer classes have completed the entire program as planned.
To facilitate the children entering the new school year, units, organizations and individuals also give textbooks to them.
Nguyen Hong Nhan shared, “I am very happy to learn Khmer in the summer at the pagoda. The class helps me learn the writing and language of my ethnic group. This is also the basis for me to enter the provincial ethnic minority secondary school. I hope that next summer we will continue to learn Khmer.”
On this occasion, agencies and units presented gifts to the pagoda.
Ms. Quach Kieu Mai, Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Ca Mau province, said: "Ca Mau province maintains a good implementation of the annual organization of teaching and learning Khmer, in order to create conditions for ethnic minority children to participate in learning Khmer in the summer; thereby, contributing to preserving the language and writing, promoting the traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities in the localities."
