"I don't have a national award, so I have to try to improve and strengthen my application with other achievements. Understanding the admission criteria will help us promote our strengths. For example, Fulbright University is not limited to IELTS certificates, but can be replaced by other standardized tests," Huyen shared.
Nguyen Thi Bao Tien, who passed the SAT with a score of 1580/1600, proved her ability to the admissions board. Thanks to that, Tien received a 100% scholarship from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a 95% scholarship from VinUniversity.
"When applying to international universities at home and abroad, to strengthen your application, you can take standardized tests such as SAT or ACT to demonstrate your academic ability to the admissions committee if your average score at school is not high," Bao Tien said.
In addition to academic achievements that prove their abilities, Huyen and Tien both believe that the essay is the deciding factor for the admissions board to choose them. "The essay is where we express our personality and who we are most specifically. Through our personal stories, our perspectives, and the way we overcome difficulties, we will make an impression on the admissions board. Writing an essay with sincerity will easily leave an impression," Ngoc Huyen said.
Nguyen Trong Dat, who received an 85% scholarship from Fulbright University Vietnam, shared: "Since entering grade 10, I have determined that Fulbright University is my first choice, so I have selected social activities and constructive academic achievements for my application to actively participate. Because Fulbright's criteria is not to proactively find the best and most excellent candidates, but to find the most suitable candidates, the essay written with sincerity and wholeheartedness is the impressive point."
